Interview: Infinitas

Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Infinitas was founded in 2009 by Piri and Selv with the idea of breaking the thrash theme with female singing and violin. In addition to guitar and drums, bass, female vocals and violin followed. Until today there were some line-up changes - among other things we played for example 1 year with flute instead of violin. An exciting time, but not what our music was all about. Today Infinitas consists of Selv Martone on guitar, Piri Betschart on drums, Andrea Böll on microphone, Irina Melnikova on violin and Martin Telli on bass. Of course we hope that this line-up will hold up and that we can finally give full throttle!

  1. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Infinitas is Latin and means "infinity". The name originated during a car ride home from an eluveitie concert. After some Google searches for great Latin words, Piri and Selv finally stumbled across the word "Infinitas". Because of the long songs that made up the band at that time (and still do today), the name fit very well. Today Infinitas stands for our inexhaustible creativity, our infinitely complex thinking in terms of our concept and for our infinite energy to drive the band forward.

  1. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based in Muotathal, Canton Schwyz. The metal scene in Muotathal is rather modest and often limited to ACDC listeners. That's why we rarely play in this place and tour the whole of Switzerland. There is a small but active scene in which the cohesion is very big. Everyone knows each other and everyone helps each other.

There are other bands in the Muotathal and we are friends with some of them. Musically, however, only a handful really fit to us, which we have already requested for concerts or vice versa.

How would you describe your style?
We play melodic metal with thrash and folk influences. Someone once described our music quite appropriately with: Infinitas sounds like a mixture of Iron Maiden and Eluveitie. We find the description itself very, very fitting and use it more and more.

  1. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far we have released an EP called "Self-Destruction" in 2015, our first concept album "CIVITAS INTERITUS" in 2017 and our first single "Skylla" in May 2018. "Skylla" even made the Swiss charts for 2 weeks!
What someone can expect from our music...on the one hand a lot of variety, exciting and interesting melodies, a musical metal genre salad, which is put together to a harmonic, unconventional whole and usually a combination of the songs to a self-invented story.

  1. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, we are currently working on a new concept album, although it is not yet clear whether it will really be an album or an EP. We will be surprised! In any case, the story of "CIVITAS INTERITUS" (2017) will continue with the protagonist narrating it. The album will be released next year. We'll see when exactly! We don't want to get too tight with an early release date.
  1. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
This year we surely have 9 more concerts to play, one of them in Croatia at the Metal Fest Pula. The other concerts are all over Switzerland. Next year our goal is to tour a bit more abroad (Germany, Austria, France, Italy).
  1. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We have a lot planned. On the one hand we want to double, if not triple, our concerts, we work hard on our stage show and on the music. One must complement the other in quality. The only thing that helps is practice. :)
We also want to publish albums (concept albums) and other projects that complement or expand our story concept. So we can be curious about our further releases and the development of the band!
  1. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music can be found at Bandcamp or on our website. But if you just want to get a taste of the music, you can find a video clip of "Skylla" and a cover video of "Samael" on Youtube. It is also worth visiting our Facebook account. There is always a look into the rehearsals - so live sound and of course news!

  1. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We wish that the listener remembers the mystical but hard sounds that he can say, but, I hear this music again, it offers a pleasant change, something so own. Everyone should develop their own fantasies to our music and through our story templates, which can invent their own sequels.
