1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.
(JD) MEADOWS END is a hard hitting metal act from Sweden that emphasizes on orchestrated atmospheres, beautiful melodies and a heavy groove. Combined with world class aggressive vocals this creates a unique blend of today’s modern metal. The band consist of five members:
Daniel Tiger - Drums
Jan (JD) Mehle - Guitars
Johan Brandberg - Growls
Mats Helli - Bass Guitar
Robin Mattsson - Orchestrations
2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?
(JD) I usually come up with riffs and build a basic idea with verses, choruses and melodies. Then the band rehearses and finalizes songs from there, doing whatever changes and arrangements necessary to create a typical MEADOWS END tune.
3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?
(DT) We are all born and raised here in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Thus the location of our home base. It is a small town here in Sweden and I personally would have a hard time living in a larger city. I like the calm and having the nature right outside your door.
4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?
(DT) We often just describes our music as “metal”. It’s really hard to pinpoint our sound to another band, which I think is a good thing. But I guess we are in the melodic death-metal genre more then anything. With extra orchestra, that is what make us extra awesome.
5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?
(MH) Of course! Our label Black Lion Records is selling our CDs and merch, just pop in here:
https://meadowsendblacklion.bandcamp.com
6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?
(MH) We’ve got a new album waiting to be released early 2019, so the studio time is already done for that one. We had a blast recording drums and basstracks in Crehate Studios and the vocals at Studio Rex. JD and Rob does their recording magic at home.
7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?
(MH) We did a tour in Spain 2015 with local bands as support. That was a really fun trip and we really fell in love with both the country and it’s awesome people.
8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?
(DT) I love everything that Devin Townsend puts out, that man is a genius. I can find inspiration in anything really. I have no defined taste in music in general, I like everything that is good no matter of musical genre.
(JD) Katatonia and Wolfheart are big favourites of mine. Hinayana’s new album Order Divine stacks some great stuff as well!
(MH) Influences have varied through the years, but I’ve always loved Opeth, The Duskfall and Soilwork.
9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?
(JD) Yes and no! https://www.meadowsend.org
Available for anyone able to surf the web!
10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?
(MH) The quality, the atmosphere and the aggression. Sure, We’re far from the fastest band around, but we pack a real punch none the less.
11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?
(JD) I’d say that our mixing man Oscar Nilsson from Crehate Studios has become a quite essential part of the MEADOWS END sound. He’s helped us improve our sound a lot and working together with him has been really helpful and fun! We’ve learned a lot from our collaboration with him.
12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.
(MH) I love my Maruszczyk Elwood basses and I also use a small pedalboard with a Korg Pitchblack Tuner, a MXR Bass compressor and a MXR M80 di+ preamp. Depending on stage size I also use a Sony DWZ wireless system from time to time.
I never bring bass heads or cabinets to gigs. Just a bass and the pedalboard.
(JD) I use an Axe FX II together with a Steph Carpenter sig LTD 7 string Telecaster. The only thing you need! And a Line6 R90 Wireless. The only thing you need. And some cables. The only thing you need...
13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?
(JD) Can’t really come up with anything that I’m ashamed of but I once copied a riff I loved from Swedish metal act Embraced and brought it to the rehearsal space. I told the guys that I wrote it myself so they would agree to arrange it. I probably wanted to stay home and listen to Embraced instead of rehearsing...
14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?
(JD) Hmm, I’m putting up dudes I fanzy and hope they can come up with some badass stuff! Chuck’s legend lives on.
Gene Hoglan - Vocals
Chuck Schuldiner - Drums
Jonas Renkse - Egg
Ola Englund - Salmon
Johan Brandberg - Guitar
15.Message to the fans? What is it?
(JD) Follow us and support us, don’t hesitate to contact and get in touch with us! We’re a familiar bunch that really love interacting with people that enjoy what we do. Any support for MEADOWS END is highly appreciated!
Cheers & Devilspeed!
