Matalobos NTERVIEW

Interview from: Metal Coffee
Interview to: Matalobos
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

C. Escalona: Matalobos, started late 2014, when Eduardo and Dante had the hungry of doing a melancholic/melodic oriented project, after their previous band splitted, so they contacted with me to join lines as drummer, work with some arrangements and work as a studio band, recording a 3 songs EP early 2015, entitled Matalobos, when we had almost all material ready we looked for a bass player, so we asked De Anda to join us. A couple of months after first recordings, we found that the band could go further as a live act, so we recruited Germán as rhythmic guitar. During that year we worked in our first LP, Arte Macabro, so it was recorded late 2015 and saw the darkness in middle 2016, followed by a bunch of presentations in the main cities and forums of our countries, our latest work, Until Time Has Lost All Meaning was recorded middle 2017 and was released November that year, and it’s available now through Concreto Records.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

C. Escalona: This a question we enjoy a lot to answer, Matalobos is the coloquial name for a flower known as Wolfsbane, this flower has a mythical story, it’s was used to turn wolfmen into humans or even to kill them, also some sheperds use it to kill wolfs than surrounded their flock due to the poisonous nature of the plant that makes contrast with his beauty.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re located in León, Mexico; I could saw regardless we had a lack of forums and space to do some shows, scene it’s so bast, I could ensure we had one of the most genre rich scenes in the country, you could find from Heavy to very cult Black Metal, all of them having higher ranges of quality.  We could recommend bands like: Majestice Downfall, Dark Matter, Vst, Satanic Rites, Legacy, Symbiotic.

4. How would you describe your style?

We like to thing about us as a melancholic/melodic Death Metal band and notable Doom and Goth influences.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

To date we have a couple of EPs and a Full Length.
Matalobos EP (2015)
Arte Macabro (2016)
Until Time Has Lost All Meaning EP (2017)
In each of them we’ll present a journey through many emotional stages, acoustic feels, melancholic and slow melodies, melodic guitar phrases, aggressive and strong beats, atmospheric passages.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?

For sure, we’re constantly in writing process, so many ideas flow, mainly in Eduardo’s mind and heart, we feel always that sensation of expresing and creating new things, so maybe a second Full Length could be expected for next year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Yes, we’re currently preparing what could be our most challenging and important show so far, since we’re presenting an special show in the city of Puebla at their main Theatre, first time for us in a stage of that category. We’ll be doing a special setlist incluiding some acoustic versions and stuff, so lots of work but it’s going really doomy.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Right now, after Puebla’s show, we’re gonna be working in new material, we have US and Europe in our sight, paperwork it’s been on his way, so, expect some interesting announcements.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
All our discography is available in main streaming platforms, such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Play, just to mention some of them. Also it’s available to stream and purchase in digital format through our Bandcamp profile. Physical editions are available in our label Concreto Records, the best of the best in Mexico.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The deadly and piercing echoes of despair, abandon, agony and null meaning of life... and also our catchy guitar feels and drum beats.
