THE DEEP END SERIES : Obscura Qalma

1. Why Bass?

A:It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

2. Do you think it is unfair or just lack of knowledge bass gets so little credit?

A: No one notices bass until it’s not there. I’m fine with that.

3. What kind of bass do you use? Model, color, year. And why?

A: I have two left-handed Ltd basses, one black and one wood color. I love the sound of Ltd basses as much as I did love the sound of Ltd guitars. That’s heavy but sharp, full yet bright.

4. Tell us about your amplification.

A: I’ve been using a Gallien-Krueger 700 RB head and an Ampeg SVT 410-HE cabinet since day one. Love the combination.

5. With all of that being said do you feel tone is an important thing for bass?

A: Absolutely. I like a balanced sound, it can’t be too sharp neither only low frequencies. I always try to set it so that it can find its place in between guitars sound.

6. Do you prefer 5 strings over 4 string?

A: I switched to 5 one year and a half ago. Never looked back.

7. Who is your favorite bassist? 7. Ugh! Got loads. Andy Rourke, old Flea, Simon Gallup, Steve Harris, and so many more.

8. Who is your least favorite bassist?

A: Probably Joey DeMaio.

9. Why do you think women seem to be attracted to playing bass?

A: Are they?

10. What bassist dead or alive would you like a private lesson with?

A: Gallup would be a nice one.

11. Bonus question. Bobby Doll, Nikki Sixx, Les Claypool, Billy Sheehan - which is more ridiculous and why?
A: Can’t tell. But i like Nikki Sixx, more for the straightforward songwriting tho.
