1.Tell us who you are with and what youve been up to in 2020 so far
Hi, i´m Mario from Frust, an Austria based One Man Band, founded just two years ago. 2020 i have finished my second full-length album "The Advent of Adhara". It is hard for me to describe the genre, so i´ll leave that to the listener and the media.
2.What plans have the virus changed for the band?
As i am not playing live, the changes aren´t that big. There was just a short delay with the CD-production, but everything is going on as planned. But it was really hard to get facebook-reach the last weeks, because every page is putting out content, and you know...the algorithm. On some posts i hadn´t even 5% reach of my followers.
3.Do you think the virus in the big picture is help or hindrance for bands?
Maybe both. People are having a bit more time for listening to music, reading articles, interviews, or for watching a livestream. For bands that make their living with gigs, it is a hard time, for sure, and like i said, a lot of bands/pages/magazines are putting out extra content, so it may be even harder to get recognized.
My album release will be on the 20th of May, in almost a month, i can´t tell by now if covid will have any effect, as far as i realize at the moment, the media interesst in my music has gained.
4.Are you doing live streams or special video’s / releases for your fans stuck at home
Yeah, i did both. I did a pre-listening of the full album live, with a Q&A over 4 hours, played all songs several times and i did a Marilyn Manson Cover for fun, it was also for keep my mind stable and not going crazy. I am not that guy who can´t be alone, i enjoy beeing alone a lot, but the thing that i HAVE to, drives me crazy sometimes.
5.What are you doing in quarantine that would surprise people?
I don´t know, maybe that i am cleaning my flat a lot haha or going riding my bike for 2 hours every day, or i am looking for cooking receips (specially from foreign countries i havent cooked any meal) and cook like a pro. I haven´t done any music for 2 weeks, because after finishing the album i needed to take a break really bad. And i have started to renovate my flat a bit. For the rest of time i am playing the Final Fantasy 7 remake on PS4.
6.What has been your mainstay music or netflix ?
I haven´t watched that much netflix as i thought that i would. I love a very embarrassing show there that i wanted to continue because it has a new part out. And i wanted to watch the second season of "Dark" but i haven´t watched nearly the half of it by now. But i am listening to music very much. When i am writing/recording a new album i don´t listen to Metal much, because i don´t want to be influenced by any song/band. But now, after i am done, i do listen a lot and catch up all the stuff i wanted to listen.
7.Will you think differently about touring? And about groupies?
As i am not touring, i can only guess. I think if touring will be possible again, i don´t know when, here in europe most countries cancled every big event at least till the end of august. But i think the crow will behave different, i think at least some people will not feel that save anymore at concerts or in big crowds. Maybe the same for groupies haha.
8.Do you know anyone personally affected?
Not personally, but a friends neighbour and landlord was tested positive and the friend was in quarantine then for 2 weeks. He is also my co-worker so i was a bit worried too, but all went fine, his neighbour is healthy again too.
9.Do you think its more important to blame someone for the virus or to get it solved
I don´t see any use in blaming someone, this wouldn´t help anyone. I know there are a lot theories and also conspiracy theories out there, some of them are believable (for me), some just bullshit. When i was writing "The Feast" from the new album, the Epstein-Case wasn´t public (at least not that one from 2019), and i had to re-write a line, because he was already, well, dead? So not every conspiracy theory is bullshit. But anyway, i think the most important thing is, that the citiziens without a good income, or with even any income, will be save, next thing, that the lockdowns, quarantines, will stop as soon as it is possible with taking care of people. We have a lot of tourism in austria, it is essential for our economy, and essential for many families, they will be the last one that will be allowed to open their hotels and restaurants, clubs and bars again, a very hard time for them. So, i really hope our goverment will solve this with responsibility with a good wealth/health-balance.
