1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band was formed in 2015. We started out just jamming some cover tunes and some ideas we had. And slowly moved towards a style we all felt comfortable with. Then, when we knew that "this is the kind of sound and music we should play" we took it up a notch and started bringing in riffs and lyrics. So it wasn't a case of "let's start a band in this or that genre". All we knew was that we wanted to do something hard and heavy. Ole and Mads started playing together back in 1995, starting various crappy bands, and other members came and went. The last band they were in together was a band called Beggars Hound. After Ole quit that band, he joined another band, and Adam also joined that band after a while. Then when that band was put down, the three of us started what would later be known as Saint Karloff.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Just brainstorming 'till it sticks. Karloff sounds cool, and Boris Karloff acted in the movie Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath is also the movie that the band Black Sabbath took their name from. You might have heard of them, hehe.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We're based in Oslo, where Adam and Mads live. Ole lives an hour away. The music scene is pretty good, but not great. Depends on what you're looking for. A Lot of musicians and some cool bands, yes. Purple Hill Witch, Sunface, Orango...
4. How would you describe your style?
We try to not get too caught up in the style/genre thing. We like to think of ourselves as a hard rock band. Like The Kinks, Sabbath, Purple, Quo, etc was. We gravitate towards the doom/stoner stuff, but we're probably never gonna do an album called weed this, or dope that, or do any over the top 5 million fuzz pedals stuff. But, hey.. you never know. Maybe the album Saint Karloff - Weed Dragon, Dope Breather is our next?
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released the single Ghost Smoker (might seem contradictive to the previous answer, but it is not about drugs, hehe) on Spotify, Bandcamp etc, and a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird on YouTube. Both songs have a video on youtube. We hope the listener can expect music that makes you move to the rhythm, and also give them their daily dose of heavy, and they might also enjoy the philosophies and stories in the lyrics.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes our album All Heed the Black God is being released on the 27th of July. We are also working on material for our next album.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We have a couple of gigs in Oslo this summer, but hope to do a lot of gigging and maybe a tour after the album is out.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
As of right now our plan is to gig, make more music and have some fun.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music is out, digitally, on most of the major (and minor) streaming sites. We also have a Bandcamp page, and a YouTube page, where you can find music and videos. We're also gonna start selling some merch.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Nothing, forget everything and enjoy the moment, and hopefully the music
