1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band began in 2012 when Mihaela(drummer) and Nina(vocalist) met at a concert where they became friends and almost immediately decided to form a band. Neža (bassist) and Ema (guitarist) joined soon after and it took us a few months to figure out what direction we wanted to take. Our first lead guitarist Nina joined a bit later and together we released the Demo in 2013. When she left to focus on family life we found Blaž who has been a crucial part of the band since.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The word ‘Mist’ describes how one feels when there is thick fog around them - confused, scared, the path unclear - not knowing what could be lurking in the shadows. Your imagination runs wild, feeling lost and blinded.. It sets a perfect scene for our music.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Our band is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia – a country with a population of only 2 milion people. We have a lot of great bands and it is a very small but connected scene where all of us know and support each other. It is also interesting that because there are few doom bands and practically none in our particular genre we get to play with different bands from heavy, thrash, black, death metal.. Since we are all fans of all those genres we enjoy those shows a lot!
As for bands to recommend There are so many I hope I can remember all of them! Here are some of our favorites from the metal scene: Hellsword (black/heavy), Teleport (cosmic death), Metalsteel (heavy), Eruption (heavy), BattleX (thrash), Black Reaper (thrash), Within Destruction (deathcore), Jegulja (stoner prog), Chains (doom), Dekadent (black),..
4. How would you describe your style?
We are quite traditional in our style with short song durations and heavy riffing, but with a soaring female vocal on top to contrast it all. Our lyrics are inspired by nature, spells, death and in some cases the occult and together with the music they reflect some sort of a release of emotion.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We released our very first Demo in 2013 to show our friends what we were doing and maybe apply for gigs, so when the reviews and positive comments started coming in it was such an amazing surprise. The demo opened a lot of doors for Mist so we started to focus on playing live. Later after Blaž joined we released our EP Inan’ in 2015. Since the beginning we have focused on playing live instead of camping in the studio and it was this mentality that has allowed us to play some amazing gigs and European festivals, as well as a tour of the U.K. in 2016. Now we finally had the time and material to record a full album and are glad it has happened. We are looking forward to spreading our music at shows too!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We actually have a few half-finished songs already and one song that's been with us for so long I can't even remember when it was written. But music with us is created at its own pace, we are not planning a new release at the moment, just following inspiration if and when it comes.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We have a few shows planned in the second half of the year which we are looking forward to, and have just announced a gig with the amazing Cauldron in october which should be very cool!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
It's hard to plan ahead having just released the album – we definitely want to promote it further at live gigs, also there is a music video in the making and we will see where we go from there.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The Album is available at our label Soulseller Records.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We hope to evoke emotions in the listener, to convey the feeling we put into the music. I think the album has a dark and evil atmosphere but is at the same time somewhat upbeat and dynamic – we'd like to see the listener be intrigued by every song as if it were a new chapter of a book.
