CODE NOIR INTERVIEW

1.      Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Code Noir was formed in 2015 by myself (Micheal T) on vocals and guitars and Adam Chapman on bass. Although our musical backgrounds were very different (heavy rock and extreme metal, respectively) we did a collaboration on a couple of Iron Maiden covers and liked how they came out. So, we decided to start a band together. Initially, there were two other members (Moth, guitars and Vaart Pilgrem, drums) who left due to personal reasons. To date, we have recorded and released a Mini-LP, entitled ‘Burn Card’, on Metal Scrap Records

2.      What’s the origin of your band name?

We’d love to have an interesting story to tell about our band name, but the truth is that, after coming up with a lot of ideas, we settled on ‘Code Noir’ because it sounded abstract and cool!

3.      Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Its complicated, haha! The way things are with Code Noir right now, we’re not based in a specific city: I live on the island of Crete in Greece and Adam is in Sweden. We get together every year to hash out new stuff and take it from there. Of course, both places have underground scenes with cool bands, like 1000dead, Obzerv, and Pure Violent Hedonism from my neck of the woods, and Warfect and Hex from Adam’s parts.

4.      How would you describe your style?

High-energy guitar-driven heavy rock with metal and punk elements.

5.      What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have one official release, the aforementioned mini-LP ‘Burn Card’. The songs feature driving rhythms, aggressive but catchy riffs and melodies, and are always to the point. Stylistically, the songs cover a lot of ground, while remaining rooted in guitar-driven modern rock. The lyrical themes focus on a variety of topics such as politics, relationships, mourning, personal struggles and debauchery.

6.      Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we do! We’ve got 3 songs completed and a couple more in various stages of development. Musically, the new material is more on the metal side of things than our previous stuff.

7.      How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Since Moth and Vaart left, we’ve pushed on as a duo. So right now, shows aren’t a possibility.

8.      What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Well first of all we’d like to finish the material for our next release, and also find a second guitarist and a drummer, so we don’t have to do everything ourselves, haha!

9.      Where can we listen you your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can check out our stuff at the Metal Scrap Records website and bandcamp page. Also at all the usual places: Spotify, Code Noir Youtube channel and facebook page (www.facebook.com/codenoir)

10.   What is it you’d like a listener to remember most when hearing your music for the first time?

That we play music that we’re passionate about, that we write songs that we, ourselves, would want to hear. We hope that other people will give Code Noir a listen and find something to dig in our music.
