The Lucid Archetype

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was original an instrumental solo project by our guitarist Matt Bernal. He decided to try to make a full band of the project and held auditions for a vocalist, where he found me (Brian Fulks). We released two EP’s together before deciding to expand the band and start performing live. After a series of twists and turns we came across Taylor Stewart, who we are so fortunate to have now on drums. 

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The Lucid Archetype was originally the name Matt gave for a song he was working on. We were going by a different moniker at the time, decided it wasn’t really a good fit and we loved the “ring” The Lucid Archetype had to it. 

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We consider ourself based out of Little Rock, AR, but Matt actually lives in Mountain Home, AR. 

The Little Rock scene itself is pretty interesting. There is a pretty good community for indie folk stuff. A lot of the people who attend metal shows seem to LOVE some hardcore and slam, which we are neither. 

As far as local bands for recommendations, it’s really all about what you are into. You’ve got metal legends like Rwake and Pallbearer. In the more djenty realm you’ve got Levels who recently signed to Famined Records, and are making some waves! If you listen to Spotify’s “Got Djent” playlist then you’ve undoubtedly heard their stuff, along with Smoke Signals. A great progressive instrumental band around here is Becoming Elephants, do yourself a favor and check them out! 

4. How would you describe your style?

I would say progressive metalcore with some deathcore, video gamey, sci-fi influences. 

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released our first EP under the moniker “Only The Strong”, which was entitled Origins. This was the solo project of Matt’s that I stepped in to. Our second release (which was our first as The Lucid Archetype) is entitled 2.0. We pretty much tried to see what we could could get away with stylistically, where our boundaries were. We’ve also released a single since then. 

I think our listeners can expect a variation of things, from poppy, to choppy, to deathcore, to sexy dancing tunes:)

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We hard at work writing for a new release! Like I said earlier, with our last release we tried to see what our limits were, with our newer stuff we are trying to find out what WE WANT to write. What style of music is TLA? What speaks to us? 

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’ve done mostly local shows and are planning on expanding that radius as soon as possible. Right now we are pulling a trailer with my old 92 Jeep Cherokee (with no AC), and as much as I love her, I really don’t want to take her out that far. So getting a better means of transportation is pretty much a necessity at this point. 

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our current plans are to secure better transportation (with AC), try to play more shows and meet new people, write a LOT more and just see where this thing goes!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I think each one of us would want our specific contributions to be remembered. Most of all, I want people to FEEL something when they listen to us, and I want them to remember that feeling.
