Massive Scar Era interview

CHERINE (Vocalist + Guitarist of MSE) is answering the below questions

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.

Nancy and I formed the band in 2005. We started as an all girls band because our parents didn’t want us to play music with guys. We had many line up changes over the year and when we moved to Canada we finally settled with awesome musicians: Dylan Wijdenes-Charles on the Bass and Danny Hubert on the Drums

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?

It’s a collaborative work when it comes to the production of the song, but I write the song and Nancy mainly takes care of the arrangement.

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

We started in Alexandria, Egypt, but of course, the political and social climates was making our life harder every day, so I moved the band to Vancouver. Why Vancouver? Because it’s the warmest city in Canada. That’s all ☺ I wish we were in LA where the sun is always, and you’d find more opportunities over there.

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain  to people what you sound like?

We play melodic alternative metal with pre-colonial Egyptian music influences. We are NOT a folk band though!

 5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?

We have an online store www.massivescarera.bandcamp.com PLEASE BUY MERCH J

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?

We are finally releasing our new EP, COLOR BLIND, on October 5th!  we are extremely proud of it and excited to hear our audiences’ feedback

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

Yes we have been on tour. We toured Europe, USA, and Canada but never with bigger bands.

2017 - Metalocalypstick (Lone Butte, BC)
2016 - Metalocalypstick (Vale mount, BC)
2015 - SXSW (Austin, TX)
2014 - Total Metal Festival (Italy)
2014 - Inferno Metal Festival (Norway)
2013 - FreakStock Festival (Bagenstreich, Germany)
2013 - SXSW (Austin, TX)
2012- Sorry We Don’t Speak The Language (East Europe Tour)
2011- USA Tour
2011- Metal Asylum, Dubai (UAE)
2010 - Dubai Film Festival (UAE)
2010 - Cornerstone Festival (Marietta, IL)
2007- SOS Music Festival (Egypt)
2009 - Sweden Rock Festival (Sweden)

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?

I personally like OTEP [she has been a great inspiration to me, Bring me the Horizon, Killswitch Engage, Leprous, A Perfect Circle, Anathema)

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?

www.massivescarera.com , anyone can access it you don’t need to be 18 J

10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?

I want people to be challenged by the meaning of our songs and our story! I want them to remove those stereotypes they have on Middle Easterns and see something different than what the news is throwing at their faces. I want them to experience a new sound of music that invites them and tackle their curiosity to maybe go and visit Egypt instead of hearing about it from the news.

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?

My employer! Whoever he is! Without him I wouldn’t be able to pay the money to record and tour J
please save me from my employer and buy our music so I don’t have to work a boring job from 9 to 5 and instead do music!

12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.
We don’t use anything fancy to be honest! we are very simple. We have a small mixer for the backing track whenever Nancy isn’t with us, I have my Mashell Head, and Dylan goes DI. My guitar is Ibanez RG

13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?

BABY METAL!          yes.

14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?
Adam Jonathan (Killswitch Engage on guitars and back vocals)
Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry on guitars)
Einar Solberg (Leprous vocalist and keyboardist)
Justin Chancellor (Tool bassist)
Danny Carey (Tool Drummer)

15.Message to the fans? What is it?

It’s important to keep buying music and merchandise from the bands! it’s also very important to share their content on social media. Facebook is making it very hard for us to promote our content online and when we do, we compete with big brands that spend more money on their ads.
