We formed in December 2017 on the back of Donna (bass) Phoenix (guitar and samples) and John (guitarist) being in band together called Los Leones Latinos who were a tribute band to Ill Nino, we loved what we did but ultimately, we wanted to support our heroes and we couldn’t do that by playing their own music! So, we got together over Christmas and started writing songs with the idea of combining heavy, breakdown laden metalcore with dual vocals, thunderous percussion, catchy, anthemic and singalong choruses and a huge array of various samples from Trance and Dubstep all the way up to Symphonic and Apocalyptic. We’re all big movie and gamer nerds so we include some noises from those too, they are a hit at our live shows!
We then found Dec (drums) and Robin (clean vocals) and things started growing to the next level, then we found Joe (harsh vocals) and now we are a force to be reckoned with both live and through headphones!
Our name means ‘Storm’ in Spanish, which is our nod to the boys in Ill Nino who were one of the main inspirations behind Tormenta.
2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?
Robin writes all the lyrics and vocal melodies; John and Phoenix are the main songwriters for the musical side of things and Donna normally listens to what we’ve made and offers her 2 cents in the process. We write a basic drum pattern and throw it to Dec who makes them sound a thousand times better than we ever could.
3. Where is the band based out of? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?
We’re all in Yorkshire! Donna, John and Fee live in Leeds, Dec lives in Barnsley and Robin & Joe live in Sheffield. Our social media pages say we are based in Leeds, but we have played outside of Leeds a lot more than we have IN Leeds!
4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?
We describe ourselves as ‘Electronic Tribal Metalcore’ but if we were to list all of the genres we incorporate in our music we would run out of room!
‘Electronic’ because of the samples we use, they are a big part of our music but we have many different styles of samples going on in there
‘Tribal’ because of the percussion we have in every song in addition to the regular drums. We would love to have a live percussionist in Tormenta too but we struggle to fit on most stages as a 6 piece!
‘Metalcore’ covers a big chunk of what we do, down-tuned guitars, riffs for days, breakdowns that are guaranteed to get the pit going and of course, the clean melodic choruses that we’re known for!
5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?
You can! We have shirts available on our BigCartel site (which will be updated with more stuff very soon) we also have Hoodies, Shorts, Patches, Snapbacks, Keyrings and many more to come!
6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?
Yes! After a very successful crowdfunding campaign where we reached our target in six days (out of 30) we will be hitting the studio in December 2018 (a year to the date that we started this) to record our first full length album called ‘Chapter 2: The Storm Is Here’
Our 3 Track demo EP, ‘Chapter 1: The Storm is Coming’ was an incredible success for something we recorded in our spare room at home, we have just about reached 100,000 streams on Spotify alone, we were added to Spotify’s own Discovered Weekly Playlist for 4 weeks in a row where we went from 500 listeners to 4’000 literally overnight! At our peak we reached 24,000 listeners which was amazing to see!
7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?
We have been involved in a tour with our Scottish brothers in Corrupt The System, we played 3 consecutive dates with them and we had an amazing time and just confirmed that’s all we want to do full time, be on the road, visit some amazing places then lay waste to whichever venue we happen to play in! rinse and repeat, jobs a good un.
8. What is your favourite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?
Donna – Emmure, Ill Nino, Korn, Dead By April
Fee – Dead By April, Bad Wolves, Linkin Park, Emmure
John – Offpring, Alkaline Trio, Ill Nino
Robin –
Joe – The Acacia Strain, Spite, Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel
Dec – Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Primus, Jethro Tull
Tormenta as a band are heavily influenced by Emmure, Dead By April, Ill Nino and Linkin Park, you can hear all of these elements in all of our songs
9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?
We do however it’s still under construction! We are very active on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so if you need to get in touch with us or check tour dates, they’re the places to go to!
10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?
We want people to get the initial kick in the face by the sheer force of how heavy we are, but a minute later belting out the choruses like they have been singing them their whole lives! Our songs switch up and you have no idea which way its going to go next. We can just melt your face with a tremendous breakdown, but it then goes into part that makes everyone reach for their lighters and hold them up because its such a beautiful piece of music!
We have been told after playing shows that we get heavier, stronger, more powerful after every show we play, even if you have seen us live, the next time you see us we will have stepped the game up some way or another, we want people to stand in the aftermath and go ‘what the fuck just happened?’
And they do, regularly
11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about, what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member?
We have too many to single out so we will name a few! We have Gina who is responsible for all our graphics and is a general wizard with computers and lighting, she makes us look fit when needed! Daniela, who is our biggest fan all the way over in Texas, she was there before the beginning and she has been helpful to us in more ways than we can express in words. And one of our newer fans Duncan, since discovering us he has travelled miles to see us, he is constantly promoting us on social media and is an all-round legend!

15. Message to the fans? What is it?
OUR STORMRIDERS!
If it wasn’t for you guys, we wouldn’t be where we are today, thank you so much for your support and faith in Tormenta, you guys truly are the best in the world and we honestly believe that!
You made Chapter One a massive success, we know you’re going to love Chapter Two, we have put our souls into this music and we know that you will see that when you hear it.
16. If you could bring back one legend who would it be?
Fee – Chester Bennington or Elvis Presley
Donna – Chester Bennington or Dimebag
Dec – Freddie Mercury or Michael Jackson
Joe – Freddie Mercury
John – Kurt Cobain
17. Who in the band has the stinkiest feet?
Joe, without a doubt. He even says himself that his feet are just wrong.
18. What is the worst album by your favourite band?
That’s impossible to answer!
How can you even do this to us!?
19. How do you think your band will break up?
Probably by death in many ways…
* Joe will scream so loud his head will pop
* Donna will be crushed under a huge pile of merch
* Fee will kill Robin for being annoying
* Which then leads to a death sentence for Fee
* Dec’s vape will explode taking him with it
* John will probably outlive us all and continue to be a studio only band
20. Finally, Zeppelin or The Who?
Can we say neither?
