NO REGRETS THE GRINDER INTERVIEW

1.Thanks for your time. Tell us about your band and what you do for your band.

No Regret has been around for a long time.  We play alternative music, which goes down quite well in pretty much all gigs, since there are alternative influences in all genres, like the the good ones rock, punk, metal, etc.

No Regret consist of Miles Fisher on guitar & vocals and brothers Alasdair & Neil Hamilton on drums and bass guitar & vocals, respectively.  Our recorded tracks also have keyboards which are usually played by either Miles or Neil.

2.When did you decide you wanted to be in a band?

Haha, we decided to play in bands when most people asking these questions were still in nappies.  Alasdair & Neil were classicly trained on the piano in the eighties, so this was more or less when they decided that they were going to make music.  Miles says that when he first developed an interest in words and decided he'd like to put them to music.

3. What is different about being a musician than you imagined?

How difficult it is to get there.  It's hard, arduous work, it takes more hours in the day to perfect, and after all this has been done and you have songs to play for people, where the lyrics are a part of your very soul, and the work it's taken to get that far...then there are two people in the audience, and one of them is the girlfriend of a band member, the other one is pissed and will dance to anything.  And possibly the sound guy.

4.What gear do you use and why?

Guitar: Miles mainly plays a PRS SE guitar with various effects through a Roland Cube Amp.Currently a Boss multi effects is used as it is more convenient in a live setting. For acoustic gigs a Taylor guitar is used, sometime with effects.
Bass: Warwick fretless 4-string live, or a Cort acoustic offstage.  Boss effects pedal for live effects on the bass.
Drums: Live - whatever ghost set they have with my Zildjian Cymbals and Gibraltar double bass. Acoustic - a nice djembe

5. What music do you listen to that would surprise people?

We listen to an eclectic range of music, from classical to death metal.  Favourites between the band members would have to include Placebo, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Pixies.  Any surprises yet?

6. How do we find your music and merch to buy?

You can stream our music on http://www.numberonemusic.com/noregret1.  There's one song available on iTunes, just search for "Bulletproof Teenager".  The reason why there's only one track is because we're still working on the album for full digital download, and we wanted to see how it worked. :)

7. How did you get a record deal? Or do you want a record deal or are you DIY?

We are stictly DIY, we feel that we know our own music more than anyone else could mess around with it.  We have had other input from another sound engineer on a couple of tracks, but he's very well versed in our music so we'll forgive him.

8. What bands do people compare your music to?

No Regret gets compared many times to a lot of older alternative bands, such as Joy Division or The Cure.  Every now and then there'll be a surprise influence suggested, but it's always alternative.

9. Are you pro Spotify / streaming services ? Or do you think it hurts sales?

Of course it hurts sales, but you've got to get your music out there somehow.  We'd all love to have a CD in the shops, but who really collects them nowadays?  So streaming is the way to go, but to get playlisted is now the only hope.

10. What's the ultimate goal for the band?

The ultimate goal for the band?  To have something which our kids can be proud of.

11. Will we see you tour?

If we can ever pull our heads out of our arses, of course we'll tour.  Befriend us on http://facebook.com/bandnoregret and you'll be among the first to know.

12. Who would you love to tour with?

Probably Placebo (but that's Neil's opinion). Metallica! (Al's choice). Placebo, Foo fighters, Chilli Peppers, The Cure, Depeche Mode (Miles' Choice).

13.What is your favorite song of yours and why?

Neil's fave song to play must be The Wonder.  It's a lot of fun to play, the lyrics are kinda dark, and when played live we use it as a moment to introduce the band and make a lot of noise.
Al: Probably Bulletproof Teenager - it's just super energetic.
Miles agrees with Neil on the wonder and would also include Hold.

14. Why should people take the time to listen to your band over the thousands of other bands?

No Regret has a style which appeals to a lot of different peoples' tastes.  We are quite innovative, and painfully original at times.  All we're saying is that, take to time to listen to a couple of tracks, and you'll like the rest.

15.What are your favorite music websites labels podcast etc?

Pretty much all of the streaming ones, Apple, Spotify, Google Play.  Anywhere you can find good music.

16. Is imagery important to you? Do you judge albums by the cover?

While it's not always fair (you can get great music off a CD without a cover at all,) it IS true that if there's a good picture, people will be drawn to it.  We are currently working on some pictures so that people can associate them with our tracks.

17.If you could choose a cover song your band mates would hate what would it be?

Neil would probably play anything he was drunk enough to suggest late that night.  Gentlemen, NO naming names, please...
Al - hahaha! She fucking hates me!

Is the record or live show more important?

The live show is definitley more important, but if the only thing people can take away with them is in their heads, it'll soon be forgotten.  If you have a show which people can remember, they'll be back for more.  But get at least an EP out there for people to take home with them.

19. Name 3 people dead or alive you would want to play your music for.

Neil: Flea from RHCP.  While he might not be that impressed, he might enjoy the bass style.
Al: Lars Ulrich from Metallica - he could tell me where I'm slipping.
Miles: Rick Rubin, Brian Molko (Placebo), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails)

20. Lemmy Ozzy Dio and Rob Halford in a cage match who wins?

Neil: Lemmy.
Al: Ozzy would be nice but he's too hammered so probably Lemmy.
