1.Thanks for taking the time to talk to The Grinder! You have a new album out, Tell us about it!
Thank you for having us! We’re releasing a compilation EP, called “Rebirth”, which is a mini collection of all our previously released songs. Our fans have been asking for a CD, so we decided to re-release our songs on this EP digitally unlimited. We will also be printing the EP physically, though in a very limited stock.
2.Where was it recorded? Is all the material new?
All of the songs have been recorded in our home studios both in Asger’s(our bass player) home or in Christopher’s(our drummer). No, since our newer material still needs a little bit of work and it takes longer than expected we decided to release this EP, which is a collection of our previously released songs, including one “new” song. We’re including an extended edition of the song “Reflections”, which has only previously been available on bandcamp.
3.What is the biggest difference between your last release and the new one?
This is actually our first release consisting of more songs than two. We have only released singles before this one, so we are super psyched about it. We’re also very anxious to hear the response on the extended edition of “Reflections”. This is the complete song, as we play it live, but we decided to release a shorter version on the single when we released it in March. However, since this EP is probably more targeted towards our hardcore fans, we decided to give them a little treat.
4.Are you signed to a label? , If so which one and how did they help or support the process?
We are an independent DIY band currently. While we are grateful for the offers we have received, we feel we have more control of our creative process and how we interact with our audience. However, we definitely want to find the right partner to sign with. If a great offer comes along we’ll definitely consider it.
5.What has been going on with the band between albums? Did you tour?
Since our last release, which was “Reflections” in March we have been playing concerts around Denmark, written and recorded some new material and getting ready for our fall tour. We’re always doing things, but the recording process has unfortunately been taking longer than expected and so we had to work around that. The new material is well on its way though and we’re performing the new songs live at the moment, so if you catch us on the fall tour, you’re in for a treat.
6.Do you have any new members?
Yes, shortly after our last release, Matias, our rhythm guitarist, decided to part ways in pursuit of some other dreams he had. We have since then recruited Glen Petersen-Jessen, who instantly fit in amazingly and contributed with riff after riff. He is a big part of the reason that we have so much new material already. We’ve already played three concerts with him, and he really brings his own unique style to CRYOSPHERE.
7.Who produced the new album and how did they effect the album?
We have been producing all of the music ourselves, however on “Wolves & Kings” we had help mixing and mastering by the amazing danish metal producer Jacob Hansen. Our music is really complex to mix well and so we asked him for help on our first release. He did an amazing job and we’re so grateful and happy that he had the time to help us out.
8.Some like to record naked or in the dark with candles , Did you have any strange studio practices?
It's not a weird thing as such, but this summer we spent a week at Christopher's house, recording as much as we could manage for what we've dubbed Cryocamp, which will be a recurring event for when we need to hammer out as much material as we can. And of course have some fun along the way!
9.Of course tell us where to pick up your album and how to learn more about you.
Our EP will be available digitally on every major store, amazon, itunes, spotify, and more. And our physical limited edition will be available at our merch stand and for Patrons first and foremost, but the rest will be sold directly through us on our social media. So if you’re not a Patron and can’t come to one of our shows, be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram! We will be updating our stock on September 15th.
10.What is your plans now that the new album is out?
We’re releasing the EP while we’re on our fall tour around Denmark, and we will be bringing our physical CD’s with us on that tour. Any CD’s that haven’t been sold when we come back will be available for worldwide shipping so keep an eye out on our social media, which is also where all the dates for our fall tour will be posted. When we’re done with our new material we might be able to release something in the winter but no promises.
