Christina Earlymorn - Being "alive" is beautiful

1.What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it? What is your name and what do you do for the band?
– The bands name is     BEING „ALIVE“ IS BEAUTIFUL     and it is pure sarcasm! LIFE SUCKS in many ways!!! (Depression, anxiety, being sick, being molested, cancer, growing old, loosing someone you love, rejection, self harm, addiction, etc...) I wanted to jump in front of a train in 2017. I came up with the phrase „Being „alive“ is sooo damn beautiful...“ and instantly I was thinking to myself: What a cool bandname! Lets do some songs and maybe jump later in front of a train or so.
– My name is Christina Earlymorn. I play music since 19 years. I write all the songs, do the cover artworks, designs, lyrics and stuff.

2.Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.
– Iam based in the southern part of germany (Bavaria) between munich and the austrian border. The scene down there is a clash of the southern german scene and the north austrian scene. We have some bands, and we are all kinda friends together. From grindcore to thrash metal it is everything there. Everybody knows everybody ya know?
– My influences? Well. I started out on guitar. My influences are Zakk Wylde, Dimebag (Iam a huge Dime fan), Yngwie Malmsteen and a lil bit Joe Bonamassa. I listened alot to Metallica and Megadeth when I started out years ago as a metalhead.
– For my band BEING „ALIVE“ IS BEAUTIFUL, I only play the bass. Its just drums combined with a overdriven bass tone and screaming vocals. On bass I don´t really see a big influence. Lemmy´s tone was a cool one, because he played the bass like a guitar, just like I do too.

3.Who influences your sound that would surprise people?
– Puh! Tough question. I don´t know. I just play what comes to my mind when I write a song for my band. I used to only write for Being „alive“ when I was very depressed.

4.Are you endorsed by musical companies , if so who , and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?
– No. Iam not. Well. I love guitars and I love Marshall amps. There are some companies out, which I really dig! (Marshall, Gibson, Dean, BCRich, Wylde Audio, Dunlop, Fender/Squier and Epiphone.)
But I think, if you get an endorsement, you are limited to only their products. I wanna use what I like and not have to be aware of what in those endorsement contracts stands.

5.When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?
– When I started to make music, I only wanted to have something where I could put my anger, frustration and pain into. I had not a real goal for success. Just wanted to let some pressure off!
– For Being „alive“ I only had one goal as I recorded Schutt und Asche (Demo/Mini Ep) to not end my life! Just write some music, write some lyrics, scream them over it and see, how life will change after that period of time. (It was planned to only do that Demo/Mini EP and then stop that project. It was never ever planned, that it would morph someday into a band and I would write a second album, because ppl liked what they heared and wanted more!) Iam still alive. So I have reached my goal :D, but I add: If someone likes the music, or feels any kinda better because of it, I have reached my goals! ...Which didn´t appeared as goals to me at the beginning. It was just a cool and positive side-effect to me.

6.In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band relevant over time?
– Well. In Being „alive“ is beautiful I sing about the negative things in life. I think, that topic is for alot of ppl interesting, who suffer on depression, anxiety, addiction, self harming, transsexualism, rejection, cancer, a loss of a loved one etc. I listen alot to DSBM when Iam depressed as hell. And that noises help me somehow. I feel kinda understood. This society calls someone who is depressed a „weakling“, a „loser“ I have been there alot. So. Maybe ppl like my band because they feel kinda understood with my music and lyrics I create. I openly say, that LIFE SUCKS and do not try to make it a „Everything is a flower power peace-cake“ show. That honesty, may attract some ppl. I think. But thats just my opinion.
7.We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off live?
– Well. It all depends on more factors. How is the mixing guy in front of the band? How is the sound of the venue overall? Do they have a good PA? Or a shitty PA?
But lets be honest, If everyone does a great job and you screw up, because you are too drunk, too high or simply have no clue what you are doing on stage YOU SUCK! Every worker, every doctor, surgeon etc... has to do a decent job! So I, to myself, I take it serious. Its not just „pluggin in and playing“ to me. It is a serious Work to me. People pay me to see a show! I cannot give you a straight answer to your original question. Because that answer depends on so many factors.
8.Tell us your “core” are you Metal , Rock , Punk , Pop etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?
– My very roots are Black Metal.
– Being „alive“ is beautiful is a mix out of Doom metal and black metal with depressive/suicidal lyrics.

9.This is a tough question but a very real reality, Is your band actually talented or just popular? Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?
– We are not popular. Talent depends on how other ppl see your talent. So I don´t know exactly. Speaking of myself, Iam not the best. There are better musicans out than me. But I do music, because I like to create it and to load down some frustration, anger, sadness etc. (Without music I probably would stab somebody) Music holds me down from doing stupid things.

10.Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that people will remember?

– We are a duo. So that is something unusual. There are no guitars. (We need to rehearsal, because it was not planned to be a band and having some shows in the future. We are not there yet to pull off a show. We will give our best to be available for shows/touring asap!!!) I hope, that we will be be able to play live in some months! And if we are, I think, that the overall package (my drummer, me, the songs, the sound, the concept of „Life sucks“/Pure honesty will be it!
We will see.
 11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?
– 2017 Schutt und Asche (Demo/Mini EP) https://beingaliveisbeautiful.bandcamp.com/
– 2019 (April) the second album called UNFRIEDEN will come out.
12.If you have videos where can we see them?
– You can find them on Youtube.com! -----> the newest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prox60fhJQc From the first album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gDDbtWtzVk

13.Everybody has Bandcamp , ReverbNation , Soundcloud , etc Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?

– The music industry has changed with the internet. Good thing is, that you can put out your shit on your own. Not like in the past, that you need labels, record companies, contacts etc. But on the other hand (Bad thing) ppl wont pay for the music anymore. Music is nothing special anymore, it seems.
Sure, there are some collectors, but they are not the majority. Most shit gets downloaded and bands are struggleing to be seen/heared, getting exposure or getting recognized. So, alot of bands give away their music for free. To me, its a 50:50 thing. Giving something away is great! But! If you sell bread in your bakery for example, you wont just give away your bread you created with your own hands! You worked for it! You invested time, money and energy! Its kinda sad to be honest. The musican also needs to eat, drink, have clothes, pay bills and live! I think alot of ppl seem to forget that. Best example: „Hey I wanna support your band and coming out to a gig of your band! ...Can you put me on the guest list, so that I can come in for free?“

14.Best moment of your career so far?

– Being able to hold an instrument to play on it. Playing Guitar/Bass while sitting on the toilet, playing in the rehearsal room and playing gigs with my other band. I just love playing. 15.Your message to the fans?

– If I can give you a lil smile with my music and you kinda feel understood in your pain or whatever, my work is done! Find a way to work out a plan to make your existence on this planet a little better. We only live once! Lets live together in this shitty world and drown it with REAL, HONEST music that sometimes sounds awful, because it just shows how our mood is. Don´t break in! You are strong and wonderful! Even with depression and other shitty stuff!!!
I´ve been there alot and even I struggle day by day with my demons! KEEP YOUR HEADS UP! I LOVE YOU ALL!
Christina Earlymorn
Bonus Question who do you bring back
Dime , Cliff , Dio , Lemmy , Randy
– They are all legends! I would bring back all! Would be a great supergroup tbh. But I think Cliff and Lemmy would have to deal out who is gonna learn to play the drums :D
Thank you GRINDER for the interview! <3 \m/ -I
