MIRIUM INTERVIEW

Thanks for your time. Tell us about your band and what you do for your band.
Hi! My name’s Stas, I’m a guitarist and a founder of MIRIUM band. We started in 2011. The main idea was to play Melodic Metal with a woman singing. We try to divide responsibilities among the band members. I’m in charge of organizational part and major music ideas. We do arrangement together. Tetiana, the singer, writes lyrics.

When did you decide you wanted to be in a band?

I first got engaged in music in 2004. As soon as I started playing, I got an idea of making a band. At the beginning I played Punk Rock (like Blink-182, SUM 41, Offspring). Then I started listening to Death Metal and playing something similarJ  And starting from 2009 I founded a band Calcutta, it was a predecessor of MIRIUM. Some of the tracks were later used in our creative work.

What is different about being a musician than you imagined?

Well… Recognition doesn’t come immediately, no one gives you millions of dollarsJ You’ve got to work; really hard not only on music but on band management as well.

What gear do you use and why?

We use a lot of different stuff depending on what sound we want to get.

What music do you listen to that would surprise people?

Every member of the band listens to different style of music. For example, I listen to Black Metal and Progressive Metal, bands like Behemoth, Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, Leprous, Tesseract; I’ve listened to Pot Rock a lot lately. A list of bands that we like is really big.

How do we find your music and merch to buy?

Our music is available on all platforms, e.g. iTunes, Google Play, Deezer, Spotify, YouTube, etc. The cheapest way to buy our last single it at our label's shop https://metalscraprecords.com/shop/en/store/product/view/36/8505

How did you get a record deal?

After taking part in W.O.A Metal Battle Ukraine, Metal Scrap Records proposed us to release a Single with the label, and we agreed. We didn’t use to work with other labels but we would get proposals. We released our first album by ourselves. We’re planning to consider proposals of labels for releasing a new album.

What bands do people compare your music to?

Some people say we are like Iron Maiden))) We heard a lot of different variants. A major part of our fans compare us to other bands with women singing, e.g. Within Temptation. It’s very flattering but we’re far not as good as this band J

Are you pro Spotify / streaming services ? Or do you think it hurts sales?

Personally, I think it hurts sales but it’s modern world and we’ve got to accept it.

What’s the ultimate goal for the band?

The sky is the limit J We always want to do everything better so it’s hard to specify an ultimate goal of a band. It’s like specifying an ultimate goal of your life. Do you know what an ultimate goal of your life is? I don’t J Maybe, a world tour is one of our dreams. For instance, I’m dreaming of performing as headliner at Waken Open Air.

Will we see you tour?

We’re eager to go on a tour but not everything depends on us. We’re ready for organizers’ proposals.

Who would you love to tour with?

I think we’d be good for a tour with Lacuna Coil or In this Moment.

What is your favorite song of yours and why?

Each band member has own favorite song. I like Premonition and I am free, Yura, the bass guitarist, likes Carpe Diem and Tetiana, the singer, loves Rusalka (Mermaid) and The Keys to You. By the way, we’re planning to release The Keys to You in English.

Why should people take the time to listen to your band over the thousands of other bands?

I can’t say we’re one-of-a-kind band but we bring a piece of our soul to our music. Today it’s not so common that a band tries to bring not only standard riffs but emotions and feelings, too. When we perform live, we’re open to the public and people feel it.

What are your favorite music websites, podcast etc?

Every website has pros and cons. My favorite one is probably YouTube.

Is imagery important to you? Do you judge albums by the cover?

No, I don’t judge an album by the cover but I think it’s important for majority of fans.

If you could choose a cover song your band mates would hate what would it be?

There have been many situations like that. For example, the other day I suggested making a cover for Hymn for the Weekend by Coldplay and they didn’t understand me J

Is the record or live show more important?

Important for who or what? J Both are important for making money. For a band it’s important to perform live shows, then you can show your real self.

Name 3 people dead or alive you would want to play your music for.

Freddie Mercury, Cristina Scabbia and Justin Trudeau J

Lemmy, Ozzy, Dio and Rob Halford in a cage match who wins?

Rob Halford will win but I’ll support Dio J
