STATE OF DECEIT INTERVIEW

1.Thanks for taking the time to talk to The Grinder! You have a new EP out, Tell us about it!

Thanks for having us, the new EP 'Retribution' is our debut recording it's a mix of Metal styles Thrash, Groove, Metalcore. classic, old and new influences we have guitar riffing with a blend of vocal guttural brutality, soaring harmonies, over a wave of savage bass and destructive drumming. The lyrical themes bounce between politics and mental health issues which reflect how we feel about alot of what's going on in the world at the moment.

2.Where was it recorded? Is all the material new?

We recorded this at Longwave studios with esteemed producer Romesh Dodangoda which was a great experience, he so knows his stuff, really aiming to make the best recording and capture our sound. We've been playing a lot of the EP live over the last year, but we tend to evolve songs as we go so for everyone this will be the first time they've heard them fully.

3.What is the biggest difference between your last release and the new one?

This is our debut for the band, we've all been in different bands before and certainly this is the best sounding record any of us has put together, going to Longwave really levelled up the production quality making a record that stands against bigger artists.

4.Are you signed to a label? If so which one and how did they help or support the process?

We are independent and doing it all ourselves, Jon the guitarist is stressed all the time as he's doing most of the work (lol). Putting on our own shows and promoting them is a bit nervy hoping you get enough people through the door for the other bands to play to and keep the venue happy. We're starting to put feelers out for management so we can concentrate more on the creative song writing/music vids/art work/merch ideas.

5.What has been going on with the band between albums and releases? Did you tour?

Since finishing the EP we've been finishing off the next collection of songs, we had pretty much an albums worth of material when we recorded the EP, but studio time is very expensive so we just did half the songs. We've carried on playing gigs and putting on our own shows, while perfecting the next six songs which we'll be looking to lay down next Spring with Romesh.

6.Do you have any new members?

Pete Scammell the Vocalist was the last piece of the puzzle who joined about 12 months before recording, we took some time to find the right person for the job, not only has he got a great voice for the songs. He's a ball of sweaty energy live and that's important to us having a top notch live show.

7.Who produced the new record and how did they effect it?

As stated Romesh Dodangoda produced it, we're lucky to have someone of his talents in South Wales and on our doorstep relatively. With such a great reputation in the industry and working with lots of established bands we knew we we're in safe hands, he made us feel really relaxed and welcome in the studio. This all helped us getting the most out of the recording time and get such a epic production sound.

8.Some like to record naked or in the dark with candles…. Did you have any strange studio practices?

Pete was staying at the hotel De Matt all week, so they turned up late everyday after breakfast (or second breakfast) but then we we're pretty much on the caffeine all day. Certainly we seemed to have swearing ritual, where most takes we're followed by a curse and someone saying 'Again!'

9.Of course tell us where to pick up your record and how to learn more about you.

We're on Facebook and Insta, plus our own website, which you can find on google! The EP will go live globally on the 6th of Dec and available on all good streaming platforms. Links if you got this far: www.facebook.com/StateofDeceit/ www.instagram.com/stateofdeceit/ www.stateofdeceit.com

10.What are your plans for the release?

Lowkey may have a beer at rehearsals that day :)' We've been working with Garry at San PR who's been great pushing out our stuff to all his contacts, so we'll ramp that up in the coming couple of weeks and then share as much as we can on socials. Hoping word of mouth still works to help us grow The State.
