DEEP END SERIES BASS INTERVIEW : Greg Garcia / John Woodson's Leg

1.Why Bass?

Honestly, when I first started learning to play I was learning guitar. Within my first year of learning some friends were trying to put a band together and couldn't find a bass player. They knew I was learning guitar and asked my to try bass and then I could join their band, so I did.

2.Do you think it is unfair or just lack of knowledge bass gets so little credit?

Lack of knowledge, gotta get to know the low, haha.

3.What kind of bass do you use? Model , color , year , And why

Fender American Deluxe V Jazz bass, Black, 2005. Love the clarity of the notes and the mean growl of the tone.

4.Tell us about your amplification

I use a Peavey MiniMEGA 1000 watt head, a Peavey PVH 212 Cabinet, and a Gallien-Krueger Neo 115 Cabinet.

5. With all of that being said do you feel tone is an important thing for bass?

Definately, I like the growling tone of my bass and think it's great for what JWL plays.

6.Do you prefer 5 strings over 4 string?

I need a 5 string for some of our songs, but I don't really have a preference.

7.Who is your favorite bassist?

Can't pick just one, Cliff Burton and Steve Harris were the most influential on my playing.

8. Who is your least favorite bassist?

Couldn't say, if I didn't like them I didn't pay any attention to them or what their names were.

9.Why do you think women seem to be attracted to playing bass?

I don't know that women are attracted to just playing bass. I've seen women playing all instruments and doing just as well as the guys, in some cases even better.

10. What bassist dead or alive would you like a private lesson with?

I would have to say Cliff Burton.

11. Bonus question

Bobby Doll , Nikki Sixx , Les Claypool , Billy Sheehan  which is more ridiculous and why

Les Claypool, because of his originality while still keeping an undeniable groove in his songs plus singing over the top of that. Making it look ridiculously easy.
