We spoke to the band prior to this review here's what they had to say:
Tunings?
We mostly play in standard A 440 concert tuning. There have been occasions when we drop the “E” string to a low “D.” Sometimes Scott will tune the whole guitar so that the entire open string instrument is an “open” E major, but play the same fretboard licks, just to experiment, then double or harmonize the licks.

Funny Weird Stories…
Onetime Scott and Ray e-mailed Charles Manson, we’re still wondering….
Onetime a dancer at one of our gigs dropped a cigarette in to our black dot pyrotechnics, it exploded and caught his hair on fire. He sued the club not us.
Onetime we did a biker gig in the north Georgia, they had a Confederate Flag flying and Melvin, shared his concerns about the flag before the show, Ray said do the best we can, by the time we started there were buffalos in the fields behind us; drunk bikers were wiping out on their expensive bikes in the grass, and they loved US…
That's a serious list of bands they've played with!!!
Never heard of a band emailing Charles Manson before.. hope they hear back from him as well..
Here's a few pics of the comic book series mentioned above:
Let's get to the review:
We reviewed two discs from MX the American.. the self titled album, and Ten Thousand Elephants..
Both were terrific..
Tracks like "Finding my Way" "My Old Man" "Freedom" "Let it Out" "Romeo's Bleeding" "Where Do You Want It" "Seems like Yesterday" really set the tone here..
They have that old Guns n Rose's sound to them, I absolutely love that.. but its also their own sound.. just an absolute thrill ride with the soaring guitars..
Great vocals, everything blends together so well, has a rising and falling tempo line, but the transitions are seamless..
Great songwriting and structure..
I love the vocals they're very Axl Rose..
This is a seasoned band of Veteran musicians..
Good solos with very precise technique..
Always that driving bass, right in time with the drums..
Overall I really enjoyed these albums I'll be looking at this band in the future as they're in the studio recording their tenth album!!!
For all things MX the American please follow them here:
