1. This is the very first non musician interview we have ever done for The Grinder, Please tell us your name and what you do?

My name is Kristy Adams and I own Nightmare Toys, a horror collectible retail store.

2.I  believe 100% that horror and heavy metal go one in one, You have the toy and horror end of it down to a science , Tell us your likes in music and what you think of metal and horror

I agree they go together. There are several soundtracks that prove that point. Queen Of The Damned is one example. That’s one of my favorite soundtracks. Dokken did A Nightmare On Elm Street Dream Warriors. Trick Or Treat (1986) is a movie that featured Ozzy and Gene Simmons. And then there are bands such as Slipknot that wear masks, so the horror and heavy metal scenes are very intertwined. I love 80’s metal!

3.It seems to me and maybe it is just my age showing but to see a girl into horror is just as rare as seeing a girl into heavy metal, What sparked your interest in horror?

My love of all things horror goes back to when I was 5 years old. I watched Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video for the first time. I remember sitting in my mother’s lap in my pajamas, watching the video premier on TV. I was scared but fascinated at the same time. I loved it! Soon after they released “The Making of Thriller”. I was so intrigued by the special effects and the behind the scenes stuff. From that moment on I was only interested in horror movies. Slasher movies are my favorite! The first real movie I remember watching was “Nightmare on Elm St. Part 2.” The opening scene with the bus always scared me. I guess it was so scary because I rode the bus. I used to love riding my bicycle down to the video store with my $2.00 to rent a horror movie. The way I picked my movie was whatever had the most blood or gore on the cover was what I rented. I would rent my movie then grab a clown cone next door at Baskin-Robbins and head back to my house. I would go straight to my room and watch my movie.

4.Steven King weaved music into his movies and the eclectic shrieking violins of Friday the 13th and the Halloween theme as well as The Exorcist theme play such an important roll do you have a favorite theme or music from a series?

My favorite theme is definitely Halloween. You immediately know that when you hear it.

5.What is your favorite horror series? And why?

A Nightmare On Elm Street. The reason is Freddy doesn’t hide behind a mask so you can see his emotions and he talks. He just seems more real than the other horror characters.

6.Tell us the challenges if any of starting your business being a woman and some of the stereotypes you have had to deal with

Mainly just people thinking I don’t know anything about horror. It blows people away when they realize I know more about horror than they do. Ha Ha.

7.If you look at many of metals mainstays including Iron Maiden , Dio , Megadeth and more they have horrific mascots. Do you have a favorite metal mascot?   Definitely Eddie!

8.Tell us more about your business you are very active on social media is that important to you?

I’m very active on social media. It’s a great way to promote your business. I love to share new products with everyone. I also love to see what other people post, such as vintage toy finds, artwork, creative photos, & horror related travel. I like to interact with the people I follow.

9.How can we find your business ? And do you have a storefront or is it just online?

You can find us at nightmaretoys.com or @nightmaretoys on social media. We also have a brick & mortar store. The new location is set to open in early February at 1309 South Commerce Street Las Vegas, NV.

10.I have been very pro woman since I started my business in 2014 I think what you do deserves respect and should be supported , Do you have any words of encouragement for young women who want to start a business?

You can do it! It’s a lot of work and it’s not easy but if you work hard you can do anything you want.
