From San Francisco, California we have Black Passage with their album entitled The Veil. What an exciting discovery and release this is. The musicians are Julian Zidarevich (vocals), Kevin Wilson (guitar), Robby Perry (guitar), Brian Mojica (bass) and Joseph Serrano (drums). Their various influences derive from alt-rock, death metal, deathcore, and nu-metal. They feature members from Fallujah, WRVTH, Wolf King, Anisoptera, and Behold the Desecration.
The Veil offers a tasteful and rather groovy kind of death metal. With excellent quality, the tracks are interesting and you are compelled to enjoy each note, each riff. Black Passage manage to combine the energy and enthusiasm of old school with the quality and creative direction of modernity.
Within "Left to Waste" are complex twisting riffs, something indeed creative. "Tables Turn" is a catacombic death metal assault that reminds me of the heavier moments of Atilla. Vocals seethe like a demonic and dark entity. Title track "The Veil" has a haunting ambience with a melodic element that soon leads into the rage and intensity we all love with death metal. Both "Silent Home" and "In Place of Us" are rather chilling; an effect created with chugging guitar and aggressive drumming and some choir type vocals if you will that flirts with some of the features of black metal.
Black Passage reaches raw depths and coarse atmospheres that make The Veil an unexpected gem.
