1.What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it? What is your name and what do you do for the band?
Our band name is Down For Days. I came up with that name as it applies to several ways of thinking, which I like. Our original lead singer battled severe bouts of depression and would literally be ‘down for days’, or months. However, as an optimist, we all strive to be in daylight, not in the night, so to be ready, or ‘down for days’ is also a reference to wanting to be in a good frame of mind.
2.Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.
We are based out of Houston, Texas. There is a very large music scene here so we are blessed. There is ALWAYS somebody to go see. We are privileged to be able to see many pro shows come through, mix that with all of the local talent and then blend it all with our individual musical upbringings . . . that is a huge part of how our material turns out sounding like it does.
3.Who influences your sound that would surprise people?
We draw inspiration from so many bands, not sure any would be a true surprise. But at our age, obviously Kiss, Rush & Led Zeppelin were obvious big influences on us growing up. But we find inspiration from all forms of music. Hell, I find inspiration just listening to my turn signal clicking if I’m stuck at a light long enough!
4.Are you endorsed by musical companies , if so who , and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?
Paul Sandefur (drummer & main song writer) is endorsed by SledgePad.
5.When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?
When I was young . . . world domination! lol And I would say I failed miserably if that were actually the endgame. Today, my goal is just to be able to write meaningful music that I myself would consider quality. Music is a series of short emotional stories that are driven by audible notes and words. If I can move somebody using those senses, then I have done my job.
6.In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band relevant over time?
We are always battling to be ‘relevant’. Houston is such a big city with so many diverse and talented bands that it remains hard to remain relevant. I think our recordings are terrific but we must continue to evolve and improve with the show performance videos and social media postings. Today you’ve got to be able to reach people who aren't able to go to the shows.
7.We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off live?
I can enjoy a good recording, but there is no substitute for a live band that can just kick your ass right before your eyes. It’s awe inspiring. Of course we continue to strive to be a better live band, however we will not go into the studio and record something we can’t duplicate live. I don’t write that way.
8.Tell us your “core” are you Metal , Rock , Punk , Pop etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?
Tough one. This band leans more on the rock, but there is also some metal influences and punk influences in our writing. I think that’s what makes music unique.
9.This is a tough question but a very real reality, Is your band actually talented or just popular? Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?
I would like to think that we are talented, but that really is all in the eye of the beholder. Those who have seen us live. I have nothing against bands who use things to get some recognition. You’ve got to get them to look at you, then hopefully keep them with your performances. Kiss was a huge influence on me as a kid. In the beginning I’m sure the costumes and stage antics is what caught my attention. But if that band, any band, did not have the talent to back whatever it was they are using to get noticed that band would not last very long.
10.Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that people will remember?
We offer you a raw invite into our creative minds. Nothing is choreographed. We play what we record, and we try to deliver a powerful performance every time, from the heart. Those that hear us for the first time will obviously not know our material, but if it’s a good song and delivered properly, unless you just hate rock & roll we should have a batters chance at getting your attention. And if we’ve got your attention, your listening ! ! !
11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?
We have two EP releases under our belts. Time Has Come and Lost In The Grey. We are very proud of both of those discs. Both are available on all music platforms. As a DIY band, it takes time to build up the funds for quality recordings. We will be back in the studio for another EP later this year.
12. If you have videos where can we see them?
We have very limited video available, but we are working on that. We do have some posted on our social media but it’s hard to turn down the studio in place of a proper video.
https://www.reverbnation.com/downfordays
13.Everybody has Bandcamp , ReverbNation , Soundcloud , etc Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?
Yes, we are all basically giving away our music for free. But, that’s just how it works now. It is virtually impossible to get recognized by someone new if your material isn’t available in the first place. You've got to put it out there. Your hope is that the ones that run across your stuff, like your stuff, talk about your stuff and share your stuff for others to do the same.
14.Best moment of your career so far?
Musically, I’d say that it is when a complete stranger listens to our music and likes it enough to spend there hard earned money on it. That it touched them enough that they are wanting to take it with them so they can listen again. Sometimes you wonder what your doing with all of the hours, days and years that it takes to create these songs, so that makes you feel good, and helps motivate when you need it most.
15.Your message to the fans?
Message? . . . Well, I am opinionated as they come, but I am also not the type to preach to the masses so I’m not willing to beg for anyones attention here. But what message I will say though is that through music, lives can be changed. Minds can be changed. Music has helped me through the roughest times of my life, as well as been there as I celebrated my highest peaks. It’s raw emotion. That connection that drives us emotionally. You don’t have to listen to my stuff . . . . but listen to somebody’s, it’s a piece of them.
Bonus Question who do you bring back
Oh man, there is no right answer here! lol All are true legends. And glad that we can all still appreciate their talents through their recordings. Long live rock and roll man ! ! !

NEMESIS ALPHA Keep On Grinding Their ‘Eternal Machines’
NEMESIS ALPHA Keep On Grinding Their ‘Eternal Machines’
|
Here how they described the ideas behind the album; “Eternal Machines
can be considered a semi-concept album with each song leading into the
next, telling the story of how humans are constantly evolving. Although
somewhat positive, there are much more negative aspects of our existence
and the taxing of the resources available to us on this planet. We, as a
people, are inclined to create which has led us, for better or worse,
to the technological stage we are currently in now. Each song
concurrently explains the journey from the inception and creation of
machines and technology to the eventual surpassing by our own
technological creations and advances.
The
first few songs take us through the past and current negative effects
humans have had on the planet and life, while the middle songs continue
the journey of how the machines have also evolved. Eventually the last
songs and the finale describe the surpassing of our species, our
insignificance, and how its eventual effects on future generations.”
With 74 minutes of pure technical, yet melodic chaos, Nemesis Alpha
paint a picture through the music and maximize the amount of time used
on the album. A few more seconds on the physical album and it would have
to have been a double compact disc, but the boys guarantee the length
will be worth the listen. There is something for everyone on this album,
from shredding solos and djent-y breakdowns, to complicated song
structures and riffing, to even the occasional ambient clean tracks.
This sophomore album is their best and most ambitious creation yet!

intense glimpse at the whirlwind that is to be unfurled on the highly
anticipated debut record, To Bathe from the Throat of Cowardice.

the album offers 44 minutes of utmost sincere and vicious music

ABBINORMAL Hark Back To When It All Began With ‘1996’
ABBINORMAL Hark Back To When It All Began With ‘1996’

The
result is a record containing 16 short metal crossover songs with
thrash, grind and death metal influences and a total duration of just
over 23 minutes. Even the artist’s choice for the album cover was not
accidental: completely drawn with a pen, it is the work of Davide
Scianca, a Milanese artist, visionary and openly influenced by the great
master H.R. Giger. The basic idea for creating the cover was made by
associating a single word associated with each track that composes the
album. The end result embodies the insane vision of Abbinormal.
The
album was recorded and mixed by Federico Lino at the Ironape Studio in
Vigevano and mastered by Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono (Fleshgod
Apocalypse, Hour of Penance) at the Kick Recording Studio in Rome.

Prodigious US Indie Artist QUARTZBED Joins Sliptrick
Joining the ranks at Sliptrick Records this week:
Quartzbed (US) Indie | Alternative | Metal
After
many years as a session and touring drummer, Chicago born Los Angeles
based Alex Schwartz had reached complete burnout. Could it be that the
music in his head was to “out there” for anyone to understand? Thus Quartzbed
the entity came to life in 2015 from the ashes of past experience.
Never one to look back… there was only glistening one sliver of truth
left… “there are no rules”!!!
As if born indie, Quartzbed
soon released 21 full length albums of undiluted artistic vision. His
pen sharpened by the uneasy teetering musical chaos which found nebulous
wordplay a welcome home in songs that stand as an open invitation for
all those who dare listen. With Sliptrick Records prepared to extend
this vision worldwide, Quartzbedwill be releasing his next opus Skull Candy very soon and true to his artistic muse, new material is already in the works.
A man, a myth, a monster? Welcome to the prolific life and times of Quartzbed!

DOWN FOR DAYS COME HOME TO METAL COFFEE!
Down For Days is the brainchild of drummer Paul 'Sandy' Sandefur who after years of playing in cover bands and writing his originals on the side, had amassed many demo's in his home studio that he knew he needed to find the right people to help finish them and get them out to the public.
For vocals, the obvious choice was his former frontman in the cover band 'Nobody's Hero' whom they played together in for years. Jerry possesses the rare combination of being able to sing with power reminiscent of the great Layne Staley as well as with finesse when needed.
The bassist came way of Sandy jamming together in several side projects in the past with a monster bassist named Jordan Goldman. Those projects included a Grunge tribute, a S.O.A.D. tribute and even a classic rock cover band named Hypersoul which they still jam together in to this day. Jordan is a well schooled musician who earned his Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance and a Masters in Classical Music & Education as well as having taught music for a number of years.
And last but not least, our guitarist is Dustin Newbold who is a classically trained guitarist and violinist who holds three music degrees from Belmont University and McKendree University. Dustin is a very technical player highly influenced by the likes of John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Michael Romeo of Symphony X and the great Steve Vai. Dustin possesses a very progressive playing style combined with a neoclassical writing style that makes for a great fit to this current lineup.
And that is how this band came to be. Four musicians who took some simple demos and turned them into some good rock and roll. We have been fortunate to open up for national acts such as Dangerous Toys, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union, Broken Teeth, Dead Horse Trauma, Janet Gardner of Vixen and Crazy Town among others. Hopefully we will be able to entertain you with our music and performances.
THE AXEMEN SERIES Bert Thomas Abney / Sin MG
1. Tell us your name and the band you play for
My name is Bert Thomas Abney, and I am the lead guitarist and back up vocalist for Sin MG.
Who made you want to pick up the guitar
Growing up my dad listened to Pantera (Dime Bag) and Ozzy Osbourne (Zakk Wylde) the way they played with such feeling made me really want to play.
Are you self taught or did you take lessons?
Self taught
4. Can you read music, Can you read tab?
I can read sheet music, but I prefer playing by ear or reading the tabs.
Do you feel like you have your own sound / tone ?
Took years to dial in exactly what I wanted. Sometimes I will tweak minor things here and there but it’s pretty solid.
0. Tell us about your guitar ( brand ,model . year , color )
I play ESP! White Eii Horizon 6 string. Black Eii Horizon FR7
0. What about pickups? Passive or active ? Tell us about them
It depends for me. I have guitars set up with passive Duncans and some set up for active EMGs.
Lets get into amplification, Same drill brand , model , speakers etc
Do you have a pedal board? Tell us about that badboy
I use a Shure wireless transmitter into my Line 6 Helix. The Line 6 Helix does everything I need it to do and more!
Now tell us your Dream Rig in detail….
I’m happy with the set up I have currently, maybe adding in a personal monitor in the future.
12. Is tone more important or is technique?
I think that they are both equally important. If you have one and not the other, you are doing something
Name your top 5 guitarist
1.) Buckethead
2.) Zakk Wylde
3.) Dime Bag
4.) Randy Rhodes
5.) Michael Romeo
14.Who is the most overrated guitarist
15.Who would you like a one hour private sit down lessons with anyone dead or alive?
Buckethead or Zakk Wylde
WINTERSTORM THE GRINDER INTERVIEW
1.What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it?
What is your name and what do you do for the band?
The band is Winter Storm. No specific story behind it. My name is Hannah
and I play lead guitar and vocals as well as running Winter Storm
2.Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.
We are based in the West Midlands and Devon the scene is the Midlands
is strong; there is a wide variety of sub genres in metal and some great
promoters. I don't personally think where we are based has influenced
our sound. Wayne and I are the only founding
members now, however John has been in the band before and we have known
each other a long time
3.Who influences your sound that would surprise people?
I'm into bands like Rush, Tesseract, Iron Maiden, Heart, Eluveitie, Symphony X, Evergrey, Gojira, Devin Townsend etc. Originally I was inspired by Eva Cassidy..
4.Are you endorsed by musical companies , if so who , and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?
We would love to be endorsed by Daddario, Mayones, Ormsby, Ibanez, Elixir, and many more..
Current endorser is Spiral clothing.
5.When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?
We wanted to make a band fusing several sub genres in metal and play
some decent sized gigs. We have achieved that, done some incredible tour
supports, played in Belgium, at Bloodstock open air and at
Hammerfest/HRH metal.
6.In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep
things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band
relevant over time?
I try to engage with social media as frequently as possible and make it feel as personal and humanised as possible. Fans want someone who is real not just advertising a product.
7.We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that
cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off
live?
I think it's important to be able to maintain a high level of musicianship live.
8.Tell us your “core” are you Metal , Rock , Punk , Pop etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?
Metal, rock, but we are also influenced by classical and jazz. Some members drum and bass.
9.This is a tough question but a very real reality, Is your band actually talented or just popular?
Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you
accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is
it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?
I believe we have talent, but we are not as popular as I would like us
to be. I think this isn't something I'm interested in, fame, really. I
just want the band to keep making good music and being able to tour
further afield and spread our name, music and reputation
for making good metal. We are potentially too niche to be big. But
that's just my opinion.
10.Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than
watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody
but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that
people will remember?
We are heavy, and it's high energy. A lot of atmosphere comes across
live in our music. Wayne always plays with a lot of energy, as does
Nathan. It's important to engage audiences and make the experience
captivating for them.
11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?
We have Serenity In Darkness, Within The Frozen Design, and on the 11th October 2019 we release Relapse In Time our third album.
12. If you have videos where can we see them?
All are available via our YouTube channel, winterstormuk
13.Everybody has Bandcamp , ReverbNation , Soundcloud , etc
Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?
It's important audiences can access you wherever they want to. If they
can find you easily on a platform they are comfortable with you may get
more focus than if you were not. No one wants to trawl through pages to
find that band, or struggle to hunt for their
CDs.. it's about publicity and making it easier for fans.
14.Best moment of your career so far?
Bloodstock open air as I returned to vocals after having to retrain for a
whole year when I lost my voice to MTD. I nearly cried.
15.Your message to the fans?
Thanks for the continued support and belief in us. Enjoy the new record :)!
THE AXEMAN... WOMAN Hannah / Winter Storm (UK)
1.Tell us your name and the band you play for
Hannah and I am the front woman for Winter Storm (UK).
2.Who made you want to pick up the guitar
I was originally inspired by Eva Cassidy and I started out as an
acoustic guitarist playing finger picked style. Fleetwood Mac was
another original influence alongside Heart and Iron Maiden.
3.Are you self taught or did you take lessons?
Originally I learnt the lyre, and had lessons. Eventually I moved to
guitar when my parents let me change instruments and had lessons through
school and college. A lot of it went over my head at the time. But I re
visited it later on by myself.
4. Can you read music, Can you read tab?
I read both.
5.Do you feel like you have your own sound / tone ? I'm not sure. Others have said I do, that they could tell a solo I'm doing, but not sure I believe I have that motif sound. Yet.
6.Tell us about your guitar ( brand ,model . year , color )
I have two mayones. The Mayones Duvell Elite Gothic 6 and the mayones
Duvell in blue. Both are stunning guitars with the elite having a higher
spec. They've discontinued the Duvell now which makes it even more
special. They are hand made in Poland.
7.What about pickups? Passive or active ? Tell us about them
Passive only for me. I find active too noisy for the playing style and role I have.
I have upgraded to the kemper world. It was the best decision I ever
made! It is so versatile for everything I need, any sound at the touch
of my fingers.
9.Do you have a pedal board? Tell us about that badboy
It's the kemper foot switch which controls my set of sounds for Winter
Storm's set. I use a lot of lasse lammert sounds for distortion tones,
LL Bombed.
10..Now tell us your Dream Rig in detail…..
I think I have it..
11.What guitarist can you not stand?
I don't know if I can think of any guitarist I particularly detest.
They are both equally important. One could easily cancel out the other.
Great solo and technique but can't make out what they are playing?...
13. Name your top 5 guitarists
John Petrucci
Paul Gilbert
Michael Romeo
Rodrigo Y Gabriela (duo)
Joe Satriani
I'm not as bigger fan of Steve Vai as everyone else is. He's very good though.
15.Who would you like a one hour private sit down lessons with anyone dead or alive?
