HER WORST NIGHTMARE JOIN THE BRUE CREW AT METAL COFFEE

1.What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it?

What is your name and what do you do for the band?

My name is Jason and I play Drums in HWN.  The name came about after about a week of playing together.  We wanted something different and Nightmares were a big part of my life at the time so after several variations from all of us once I introduced ‘Her Worst Nightmare’ we all knew that was it and it was just what we wanted.

ted.

2.Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.

We are based out of the Southside of Chicago, IL. The scene is thriving right now with Killer bands from all around the area there’s a lot that we’re big fans and definitely some we want to jam with, too. Chicago is a great place to write and play music I wouldn’t say our sound is influenced by it too much but you definitely learn how to manage the band and face challenges like how to get people to your shows with so many good bands around.

3.Who influences your sound that would surprise people?

We’re really influenced by a lot of older Thrash and Hardcore stuff so Slayer is Number 1. Followed by Black Sabbath, Old Sepultura, The Haunted then the Hardcore side is more Glass Casket, Bury Your Dead, Underoath, Martyr A.D., It Dies Today, etc.

4.Are you endorsed by musical companies , if so who , and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?

I just recently got an endorsement with Scorpion Percussion for my own Sticks that are AMAZING so far so I hope to do good for them and stay in the family for sure.

5.When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?

Our Ultimate goal was to create a brand of music which we’ve never heard before and that goal to us is 110% reached. Now that we released 10 songs this past March we’re trying to reach as many people as possible (obviously). We’re going to focus more on promoting and getting our music in people’s ears before we go booking 100 shows again but we definitely love and want to play as much as possible, preferably in a traveling sense.

6.In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band relevant over time?

This is the most challenging aspect of all, getting people to care. The internet is a local/struggling bands best friend and worst enemy to me. It’s great for putting stuff out there and all that but how do you reach people that are actually gonna check you out and care that are strangers to you and THEN keep them interested? We print our own merch for one which helps a ton and I also do merch for tons of bands around here. Every show we play there’s different merch, Raffles, Exclusive Stickers to bring to the next show you attend that you can redeem for another exclusive item such as a short print live CD or Limited Shirt. We just printed 12 ‘CREW’ shirts that are kind of a throwback/tribute to the old Thrash band T-Shirts that always had the Road Crew info on them, so we’re looking to start a street team in the U.S. Anyone interested can just message us and we’ll get a ton of stuff out to you!

7.We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off live?

That’s a good question and a big not cool from us. If you can’t do it on stage with the people you have up there then don’t record it that way. We’ve always been a trio (Revolving door bass players but think we have our permanent match now) but to us, if we were 3 dudes on Stage with tracks going and second guitars being pumped in and all that it’d be a boring waste of time. We like plugging in, Thrashing, minimal talking and being as identical to the album as we can.

8.Tell us your “core” are you Metal , Rock , Punk , Pop etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?

I hate this question because it can Immediately deter somebody from checking you out haha. In all honesty for us, the only way we can describe it is Death/Thrash/Hardcore. There’s so much of each element leaving one out wouldn’t make sense so we hope that helps, it’s fucking HEAVY so check it out!

9.This is a tough question but a very real reality, Is your band actually talented or just popular?

Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?

There’s so much talent, to me, especially in Moe and Carlos. The main thing I always get asked is How long Moe and I have been jamming together which is cool because it shows people are paying attention to our set and all that. I’m a huge fan of Carlos’ lyrics, every word is more extreme than the next in each song so I wish I could do that. We always favor talent and people sweating it out on stage and playing everything live it makes a huge difference to us rather than being manufactured bs.

10.Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that people will remember?

Our live shows tend to be pretty intense. I never know what Carlos is going to do but he’s excellent, tons of energy and a Killer voice. Moe is always awesome, too. For me, I feel really strange just sitting there so I always try to be as active as the music allows! It’s definitely an experience and we all know how to party so we’re excited to finally meet some friends and have some fun supporting this record!

11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?

We just released our Debut Self-Titled 10-Track Full Length on 3/15/19 so that’s available on most digital outlets and we have physical copies as well. There have been demos and Live cds in the past but we’re hitting it the hardest we can now. Our follow up is an EP planned to be released in early 2020 so please be on the lookout for that. We’re also 7 songs in to the next full length so we hope to start tracking that late this year for a summer/fall 2020 release. We’re doing our best to make up for lost time.

12. If you have videos where can we see them?

We currently have our Youtube channel up and it’s being upgraded as we go but for now the entire album is up in Lyric Video form and there are a few live shows, too.

13.Everybody has Bandcamp , ReverbNation , Soundcloud , etc

Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?

First let me give you ours, too!

These are definitely important but not as important as just recording a very high quality product and promoting it properly to the public. That was our mistake, recording endless demos, never shopping them around and trying to play as often as possible. It’s better late than never though and we’re not going anywhere so that’s our mind-frame at the moment. Quality Product for people who dig the same stuff as us! We’re just trying to write Killer tunes, record it the best it can be and Promote, Promote then Promote some more. We all believe in this band and the material we make so we need people to hear it! Merch is very important, too, We always send stickers, flyers, etc. to venues we play in advance of the show, especially out of state ones, because how are you going to get people to a place they’ve probably never been to come see a band they’ve never heard of?! Our biggest thing is taking the old school route and getting stuff in people’s hands rather than rely on the internet and websites you mentioned although we appreciate the fuck out of them!

14.Best moment of your career so far?

Releasing this album was the best feeling I’ve had playing in this band so far I think that goes for all of us.

15.Your message to the fans?

We love this music and Heavy music in general more than anything. We also love hearing new bands and encourage anyone with music to direct us to it so we can check it out and support and hopefully hook up for some shows! I keep track of everybody we jam with or shoots us info I have a huge Spotify list of bands just like that and we all keep in touch so don’t be shy! Come hang out and if interested, message us to join our street team and receive exclusive shirts and merch nobody else will ever have along with tons of promo material to hand out. We’re looking to make as much music as possible and play anywhere that will let us so get and keep in touch with us \m/

Bonus Question who do you bring back

Dime , Cliff , Dio , Lemmy , Randy

Cliff because he was the man and the only one of these legends I never had the pleasure of witnessing Live in person!
