All Kings Fall- Band Interview

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.

Mitchel: All Kings Fall (A.K.F) is a three piece band that has been fine tuned through many trials, errors and a strong brotherhood. We originally started as a 5 piece, but have lost 2 members in the development process. Right now we have no interest in replacing them. Ian Gray (bass/vocals), Jonathan Nicewander (Drums) and myself (guitar/vocals) have all been in bands together in the past; however, this is the first band with all three of us together. We couldn’t be happier with the results thus far.

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?

M: It is very much a group effort. I get a riff or two going, then Jon and Ian do their parts to make the song pop. Putting in pauses, vocal patterns, the general dynamics of the songs and so forth.

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

M: We are based in a small town in Wisconsin called Waupaca. You know, your cliche metal story haha We have no current intentions on basing ourselves from a bigger city, but we all started in Waupaca and most of us live there so we will just stick with that for now.

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?

M: We play what most people describe as ‘Groove Metal’. We have been compared to many bands, but mainly we have heard Pantera, Gojira and Lamb Of God.

5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?

M: Yes!! We have 2 albums currently for sale on all digital platforms and CD Baby.com. As far as tees and other merch goes, you have to come see us live for those, and we are going to be ordering new merch to celebrate the release of our new album featuring killer art by Five Milligrams! (Be sure to check them out!) That being said, if you shoot us a message or something, we would be willing to mail something out to ya.

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?

M: We just released our second album ‘Grip Control’ It took us much longer to release than we expected due to some unforeseen obstacles, but it is finally done and it sounds better than we could have ever imagined! Huge thanks to Russell Hollar Music Production. That man is a wizard!

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

M:Unfortunately we haven’t yet been on tour as a band, however, we are looking into some future plans something like a ‘camping tour’ next year; like planing gigs close to campgrounds. We sort of figure it might be a cheap way to go about lodging and just having a great time.

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?

M: Man! There are so many! We each have our own personal pool of random nostalgic albums that have influenced us for years. I personally have recently been strongly influenced by the band Gojira and I feel that the others have been as well. We also have been inspired by many bands in our local scene. There is a huge breeding ground of humble, talented metalheads that are all just as good at the ‘big’ touring bands we all admire.

9,What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?

M:We want people to be able to stand up and start thrashing the second they feel it! Music to us is about feeling and we want our raw, real, and heavy sound to flow through our fans as they listen. Also, we are hoping to invoke passion in new listeners as well-whatever that may be

10. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?

M: My wife, Emily. She keeps and has kept an eye on all of us for these three years and goes out of her way to help and support the entire scene as much as possible. Through her photography, videography, and aiding in keeping up on our media presence; to just hanging out, helping us toss ideas around and even running our merch booth. That women is a Godsend for all of us.

11. Tell us nerds like me about your live rig and equipment.

M: Ian and I use a variety of vintage toned amps like his Fender “Rumble 500” combo amp and my Peavey “Windsor” Amp. We seem to be keen on the vintage thing, haha. It’s been good for us. Jon has an entirely custom 9 piece birch Mapex kit that is known in our scene as ‘The Ragnarok” It’s massive!

12..What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?

M: I love a lot of easy listening. The kind of music that is usually used by artists to clear their heads. Nice and ‘boring’ haha

13..Message to the fans? What is it?

M: Never give up your inner child. It’s who you really are inside. This part of your soul knows what you really want, to our experience. Plus, being too serious is just stressful. Who needs that?

14.If you could bring back one metal legend who would it be?

M: Not to dodge the question- but I feel is may be time we stopped looking into the past.  There are so many legends who have influenced us all, no doubt about it, but I think we need to focus on finding the new ones rather than missing the old ones. I mean, gun to my head answer I would say Dimebag Darrell. Not because of his playing, although he was a God, but because of his attitude. He had pure love and was the embodiment of what metal really is and when it comes down to it- that is really what we are missing these days.
