INTERVIEW WITH David T Chastain OF CHASTAIN

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members. 
David T Chastain: CHASTAIN’s current line up is:
David T Chastain- Guitar
Leather Leone- Vocals
Mike Skimmerhorn- Bass
Stian Kristoffersen- Drums

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?

David T Chastain: I pretty much write all of the music and Leather helps with the lyrics.

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

David T Chastain: We are spread out all over the world. I live in Atlanta. Leather lives in San Francisco. Mike lives in Cincinnati and Stian lives in Norway. I guess musicians in the US all dream of living in LA at some point in time.

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?

David T Chastain: US Power Metal. Chastain has its own sound and I don’t believe we sound like any other band. My writing style and Leather’s vocals creates a pretty unique sound. You aren’t going to confuse Chastain with any other band.

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?

David T Chastain: I own my studio so I am always recording new things. However this year we are preparing lots of reissues… so that takes mastering and editing.

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

David T Chastain: Yes many tours. Although at the moment I don’t tour. Leather loves to tour and is doing some solo touring this year.

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?

David T Chastain: I can’t say I have a “favorite.” I rarely listen to other bands at this point in time. I know Leather has always been a big Dio fan.

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?

10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?

David T Chastain: That we play our own unique brand of metal and are not copycats or trend chasers. 

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about, what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member?

David T Chastain: Can’t really say we have an “extra” member of the band other that some very longtime and dedicated fans. Mike Varney had a hand in putting the band together in the beginning and recording Chastain’s first 2 albums.

12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.

David T Chastain: For many years I used Lab Amps and Marshall cabinets that had EV speakers and not the normal Celestian speakers that come normally inside the cabinets.

13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?
David T Chastain: Not really ashamed of any musical pleasures. Most of my “free” time listening gravitates towards classical piano pieces.

14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?

David T Chastain: I don’t think I could get a better drummer than I already have in Stian Kristoffersen. Maybe Steve Harris on Bass. Living vocalists would probably be Joacim Cans of Hammerfall.

 15.Message to the fans? What is it?

David T Chastain: Hope you enjoy all of the reissues in 2018. Plus some old demos of music no one has ever heard that is pretty amazing. Enjoy!!
