Interview Decayed

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members

JA - DECAYED started out in June 1990 under the name DECAY. In 1991 we changed the name. We released a demo in 1992. Our debut came out in 1994. So far, 12 studio albums, 2 live albums and several split CDs, split EP's, tapes and vinyl. Our new album came out on the 7th of June and the line up is now for almost two years: me on guitars and backing vocals, Vulturius on vocals and bass, G. R. on drums.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

JA - The original name Decay was taken from the VENOM song "Senile Decay", one of my favourite tracks by the Masters. And it sounded good cause it describes the world in which we live... decayed...

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

JA - We all live around the area of Lisbon or in Lisbon. I have no idea of what's going on any scene, I left it years ago due to the bullshit. Use the internet for something else than porn.... search, that what we did in the old days. But you could check MARTELO NEGRO and MIDNIGHT PRIEST.

4. How would you describe your style?

JA - Easy! Old School Black Metal \m/

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

JA - It's impossible to write down everything we released my friend. Just go to www.metal-archives.com and you'll find everything we ever released. Our releases all try to perpetuate what was done in the 80's. So, if you're into the 80's, you most likely will appreciate our sonic blasphemies.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

JA - I'm already working on a split CD that we're supposed to do with VOMIT OF DOOM from Argentina. Not sure when we'll record it or when it's supposed to be released, but I expect next year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

JA - Yes we do. We had to cancel 3 shows due to work... but we have now a date for the first gig... 22nd September in Lisbon with PRIMORDIAL and AURA. We hope we can arrange a few more gigs for this year still.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

JA - Keep on writing new material... keep on releasing albums... keep on playing live... try to keep this line up for some years... nothing much...

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

JA - We're on Band Camp https://decayed666.bandcamp.com/
We're also on Face Book www.facebook.com/DKD666/ where we have plenty of videos for your delight.
There's lots of stuff also on You Tube.
You can buy directly from me, just send an email to: chroan#sapo.pt and ask for the list of available material.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

JA - If they remember the first time they listened to it... I'd be very pleased.
