DAWN OF ANUBIS INTERVIEW

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We originally formed when we were 14 with four members as a covers band called The Bench That Rocked, and as that took of playing covers all over the country we soon realised that we had no time for our own music. So we started a side project that allowed us to write original material and go out and gig our songs occasionally but the covers band was still the main focus. Until recently when we entered metal 2 the masses this year and had a few line up changes and our main focus switched to Dawn Of Anubis.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The bands name was discussed and we decided we wanted something that would say we were a rock/metal band so we liked the idea of the words ‘Dawn of’ to start the name, and then lots of ideas were passed around before the theme of an Egyptian style came up, we had listed the names of a few gods as the lead singer of the band is quite interested in ancient Egypt, and eventually settled on Anubis.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are
there any local bands you could recommend?

Dawn Of Anubis is a Leicester based band from a town called Coalville.
The scene here is great for metal music with top bands such as Resin, Internal conflict, Mage, Blood Oath, foul body autopsy, ubiquitous, seven hells, my legacy just to name a few!

4. How would you describe your style?

Our style is quite unique, quite commercial with blends of lots of sub genres of metal. We tend to put things in our music that we like and think would fit that specific song, not just throw something in because that’s what you do for that genre. We are also very vocal based as we have three vocalists in the band.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your
works?

So far we have released an album of our earlier sound which is a bit more rock than metal, however we have recently released four music videos that progressed as we did through the metal 2 the masses competition. These videos are a much better example of what to expect from us at a live gig, and people should really listen to the lyrics in our music as we take songwriting quite seriously and try to have some deeper meaning within our music.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We do have some new music we have been none stop writing recently and must have had at least ten song ideas in the past few practise sessions, but it’s all about the right song and we have to write a lot of bad stuff before we get the one song that’s worth it.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently practising heavily for our upcoming performance at this years bloodstock where we will be on the Jager stage, we also have a few gigs dotted about the Leicester scene but we are looking for more work and will go wherever is needed as we have the band van ready to go.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We plan on making our performance a show not just turn up and gig, we are working on all aspects of the performance from stage presence to crowd interaction, we want it to be a memorable show and want people to walk away with us in mind.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We have music all over, iTunes Spotify, all the major music streaming sites. We also have music videos on youtube and Facebook also.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We’d like people to remember that we are a young band willing to progress and peoples support is a huge driving factor for us, the more we see people liking what we do, the more we want to make music for people. And remember we are not defined to just one style we will play what we feel is right and people should not see that as an inconsistency within our music, it is simply progression within our musical taste. We feel it’s important to constantly evolve as musicians.
