ACAEDIA - Interview

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

“The band was founded in 2014 by guitarist Javi Sardinas and myself (Ray Jimenez ex. Abiotic - Metal Blade). Javi reached out to me with some material he had been working on to see if I would be interested, but I didn’t want to do it at first. Javi wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I eventually decided to give it a go. Bassist Eddy Madero was a close friend that we knew from the local scene. Eddy lived across the street from the studio where we recorded out first demo, so he would come and hang throughout the recording process. He liked the song, and we knew him well, so we decided to bring him on board. Drummer Mike Collantes shared a rehearsal space with my old band, so when the opportunity came, I reached out to him and the lineup was finally complete.”

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

“I was tired of long band names that no one could remember, so I wanted a one word name that was easily recognizable and that started with the letter ‘A’ for the alphabetical advantage. I felt that Acaedia, which is a made up form of the word Acedia - and a desperate attempt to make the name original-, was perfect because the name really fit the lyrical concepts at the time. The word basically defines a mental sloth, someone who is indifferent about their place in the world. We really wanted to write music that made others aware of the impact our actions can have on our surroundings. I shot myself in the foot with the spelling because I later realized no one could properly sound our band name: uh-see-dee-ah”

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are

there any local bands you could recommend?

“The band resides in Miami, Fl. As you can imagine, we don’t have much of a metal scene down here. Silenmara and Dyne Side are two bands from our area that we think are pretty sweet, and you should definitely check them out.”

4. How would you describe your style?

“We don’t really define our band with an absolute style, but if I really had to I would say we are metalcore with a hint of djent.”

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your

works?

“In 2015 we released our first EP entitled ‘Dawning.’ Our latest release was our sophomore EP ‘Void,’ which was recorded, mixed and mastered by Andrew Wade (ADTR, MISS MAY I, ATTILA, etc.)”

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

“Certainly. We’re always working on new material.”

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

“Although we’re always generating new music and content, touring is our main priority. We’re currently working on getting out of Miami and hitting a city near you.”

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

“We love what we do, and we want to do this for as long as we can. We’re gonna continue to sacrifice whatever we must to keep our passion afloat.”

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

“Our music is available for streaming EVERYWHERE! You can also purchase a physical copy of ‘Void’ via our online merch store. Visit Acaedia.com for more info.”

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your

music for the first time?

“We don’t just write music that we enjoy to play. We like to incorporate a message that others can relate to. There’s so much negativity in the world, so we want to remind those that lend us theirs ears that there are still those of us that believe we can bring change and tear down that walls that separate us.”
