IN VAIN ORDERS UP SOME COFFEE WITH A SIDE OF INTERVIEW

Interview from: Metal Coffee
Interview to: In vain

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.
In Vain is a power/thrash metal band from Madrid (Spain) active from 2003. After many changes we found some stability in 2014 and we are four members now: Daniel B. Martín Lead guitar; Teo Seoane Drums; Mario Arredondo bass, Daniel Cordón Rythm guitar and vocals. Drummer and vocalist are founder members.

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing
duties?

It´s more a two members thing. Both guitar players made 100% of music and lyrics. The other members are invited to collaborate... but they seem quite comfortable just playing hahaha

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the
dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

All the members of In Vain are from Madrid and we rehearse in a medium city near the capital. We played in Madrid a lot of times but we also visited many other cities in our country as Barcelona, Pamplona, Valencia... we would love to visit some euwopean cities with our band like Hamburg, Rome, Prague, Lisbon... and it would be great to play in south america too. The truth is we love to play out of our homebase and have no preference... just knowing new metalheads and blow their heads with our guitars!!

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?

We play a mixture of power metal with many influences from speed and thrash metal. You could say we sound like a strong Blind Guardian, the more aggressive face of Running Wild or the more melodic side of Kreator. Paradox would be a band you could say we sound similar too as well.

5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?

Of course, we have an online store at http://www.invainmetal.com/tienda_en.htm for t-shirts, patches and picks you can directly write to our mail at invainmetal@gmail.com, as shipping costs are very bariable and we prefer to see each purchase one by one

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?

We are planning to release a new album in 2019, our fifth one. We have 6 songs in demo version and plenty of ideas for new stuff so the only thing that could stop us is the complete lack of money we’re struggling since the very first days or our existance hahaha. But we’re sure we can handle it, as always

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

Only national tours here in Spain, the offers that came are far from being reasonable in terms of even promotion... we’ve played in almost every city of our contry, and luckily we could play in France some years ago, as winners of a metal contest. We’re offering now our services to some international metal fests and maybe we can hit some european cities next year (crossing fingers). In Spain we have played with bands like Riot V, RAM, Freedom Call, Astral Doors, Axxis... great bands and great proffessionals we could learn a lot from

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?

Well, each member has his favs of course, but we could mention Blind Guardian, Kreator, Running Wild, Dissection, Immortal, the old Arch Enemy, Wuthering Heights, Iron Maiden, Helloween, Symphony X... just to name a few! Our best influences are those bands we consider our favorites, of course.

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?

Our website is www.invainmetal.com and no age verification needed, but now it’s just a online store and a reference to our facebook page (www.facebook.com/invainmetal) where we upload all our news and new material
10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit
people when they hit play?

We always want to transmit ENERGY with our music. We want to be that band you need to turn up the volume when you start listening to us, or give all your damned forces in gig until you get exhausted. If we get that, we’re more than satisfied

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives
your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?
Of course that member, the fifth invainer, is our producer iván Gutiérrez. We are working with him since our very first demo and is not only a great producer and musician, but a good friend and very important piece of our existence as a band. We’ve grown up together in music and after 15 years you could say In Vain would’nt be what it is today without him.

12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.
Haha, an interesting question. Drums live and studio are Pearl Export Select with Paiste Cymbals, EBS 2x10 Neodinium bass cab and Mark Bass 500 head. Guitar players live use ENGL Screamer head and ENGL 2x12 pro vertical cabinet, and a custom Laboga Mr. Hector clon, with 50w and an ENGL 2x12 pro vertical too. For recording guitars we use since our third album digital tools like AXE Fx, 95% similar to the real thing and faster and easier to dial... we always prefer the roaring thunder of our valve heads behind but... we finally surrendered to the dark side ;-)

13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?
Celt/folk music from the 70’s, but we are not ashamed of it hahaha. A real dark pleasure for some of us... the great AOR song “Incomplete” by Backstreet Boys 

14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?

Mmmm... a tough one, it  depends on the day we think about it, so many great musicians out there... but this line up would kick ass for sure: Russell Allen on vocals, guitars for Victor Smolsky and Alex Skolnick, bass for Cliff Burton (as long as we are dreaming...) and Danniel Erlandsson on drums. Tomorrow we would chose four different members hahaha.

15.Message to the fans? What is it?

Just follow and support us as much as you can on the social networks, listen tou our music, and if you like it, please share to the world!! Hope we can see you soon in a gig and have one (or ten) beers while talking about music!!
