Black Vatican INTERVIEW

Interview from: Metal Coffee
Interview to: Black Vatican

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.

We are an unsigned Gothic metal band from Kansas City, KS. We are a band that focuses on realistic views of the world. Like most metal today, we express what we've experienced and seen personally. Our music has fortunately been molded by members whom share the same views and know how to express them beautifully through their own instruments. We are greatly influenced by all subgenres of metal and rock and are open minded towards their potential. Erick is one of the founding members and is the vocalist and bassist of the band, Cole is the guitarist, and Isaac is the drummer. It took several yeras to find the right members for the band, but overall we consist of honorable members who strive for excellence and are very resourceful with the little we have.

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing
duties?

The lead vocalist writes the lyrics but is also in charge of molding the lyrics along with the songs as how the band wants them to sound. As far as the instrumentals, that is a group thing. Everyone critiques each other equally and gives suggestions on how each sound should be until we create the perfect rhythm, beats, and melodies for our songs.

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where do you want to the band to end up? What was the
dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

We're all from Kansas City, KS but we would like to end up in places such as California, Colorado, or even France or Norway because of how beautiful they are. Though, as much as we want to move to different locations we are best to stay in Kansas for now because it is pretty cheap here and that gives us the advantage of buying the things we need and to save money for the future.

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?

Our genre is clasified as Gothic metal and that cconsists of a combination of different sounds from different bands. Bands like Cradle of Filth, Abyssos, Theatre of Tragedy, HIM, Beseech, Nightwish, and Wildpath as the main ones.

5. Can we buy anything from you CDs, shirts, etc and where can we buy them?

Yes, we have our music on sale in over 150 online music stores and apps. The main ones would be iTunes, Amazon music, Spotify, Pandora, etc. We're sure that if someone has a similar app then they can easily find us with a simple search. Our hard copy CDs are only sold on Amazon though.

6. Do you have studio time lined up with anything new coming soon?

Definetely, for now we are creating new songs for our second album and hope we can start recording as soon as early 2019 so that we may release it some time that summer.

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

Not yet but that will soon change once we have our second album ready.

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?

The bands that greatly inspired us are Cradle of Filth, Mayhem, Metalica, and Beseech. But we also like Immortal, Abyssos, Theatre of Tragedy, Rammstein, HIM, Nightwish, Apocalyptica, and Sirenia. There's also Anabantha, Heathen Foray, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, and Slipknot who inspire us.

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?

We  have a Facebook page and a Youtube channel. Don't worry, the feds have not regulated those sites yet.

10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit
people when they hit play?

We want people to remember the combinations of sounds we take from other genres and incorporate them into our art; these sounds representing the emotions and chaos one feels in their minds on a daily basis. We want people to remember the stories we tell and how accurate they decribe one's life. We want people to feel the darkness consume them once more as they listen to our music, bringing about their favorite nightmares and traumas back to life so that they too may face their fears and become members of our cult.

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives
your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member?

We would have to say our other founding member, Jose, has that claim. He is what keeps the band alive and positive, has a creative mind, and knows what good music should sound like. Though he is no longer in the band due to his own personal responsibilities, his energy alone is still powerful enough to influence our music.

12. To nerds like me, tell us about your live rig and equipment.

Our drums consist of a black acoustic set covered with 8, 12, and 14 inch hats, no triggers, PDP high hats, and double bass foot peddles. Our guitar is a crimson Ibanez electric guitar which uses a 1990 Randal amplifier. Our bass guitar is a red Squire Jaguar bass with both J and P pickups and uses an Acoustic  distorted bass amp. Lastly, we have two 61-keyed keyboards, one is a Yamaha and the other a Casio, which sound great on our giant Peavy keyboard amp that holds up to five channels.

13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?

We wouldn't say we're ashamed of it, but our musical guilty pleasure would have to be liking other types of music really. We are a very open-minded band so we also like other types of music such as some rap, soft rock, classical, techno, and new wave. Just not country. It feels weird saying this, let alone coming from a metal band, but in the end we are only influenced by the dark arts of rock and metal.

14.If you could custom build a band who would the members be?

We think it would be interesting to have Pickles from Dethklok, Flea from Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Sid from Slipknot, Paul from Cradle of Filth, and Lacey from Flyleaf all locked in a studio to see what would come out of it. Creative art nonetheless.

15.Message to the fans? What is it?

The skies are aflame and bound by crimson traces, the cult can be summoned through the book faces. The coven awaits new members to acquire- the solid commitment to stand next to the pyre, and spread the ashes atop the world's long end, and breathe the fumes to be born again. Follow us on Facebook, we are looking for potential talent to join our crusade so message us if you're interested. Also, we are ever so grateful to have such loyal fans, we ask that you may stand with us to help cast our influence among the stars and create a new constellation.
