Deadly Carnage interview

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.
The band was born in 2005 from an idea of mine (Adres - bass) and Marco (Drums). Our intention has always been to play music that was first of all a satisfaction for ourselves, without precise labels. The current line-up also includes Alexios (voice and lead guitar) and Dave (rhythm guitar).

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?
Most of the music is written by Dave (rhythm guitar), but the whole band participates in the compositional process and makes its own contribution. The lyrics are currently written by Alexios (vocals), although in the past I also wrote some lyrics

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?
The band was born in Rimini, a city in the north of Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine hills. We never thought of a point of arrival for the band, we have always seen music as a chapter that closes to open a new one. There is no end, just a new way.

4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain  to people what you sound like?
Currently I would define our genre as a cross between Post-Metal and Blackgaze with some influences coming from the Doom of the 90s. When I describe our music, I approach bands that are very different from each other: Novembre, Deafheaven, Russian Circles, Alcest…

5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?
The easiest and most direct way to buy our albums and our merchandising is to go to our bandcamp: https://deadlycarnage.bandcamp.com/

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?
Our last album was released just a few months ago, but we are already working on something new, we wrote a concept and we started composing new tracks. I think it will take two or three years to see this new work accomplished.

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?
Until today we have never done a real tour, but we hope to organize something in the near future.

8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?
Personally, my favorite band is Drudkh, but as for the bands that have influenced the Deadly Carnage now and in the past I can mention Alcest, Russian Circles, Deafheaven, Lento, Lantlos, My Dying Bride, Opeth, Tool ...

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?
We do not have an official website, but we have official pages on social networks: Facebook, Bandcamp and Instagram

10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?
As said, our goal is mainly to satisfy ourselves with our music, we never think about what the public might like, but what we like about ourselves. However I think that what people appreciate most in our music is its atmosphere halfway between dark and dreamy.

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?
The answer to this question is very simple: Mike Crinella! He's been a very close collaborator for a long time, it's like he's a member of the band. Mike is our sound engineer during the concerts, he helps us in the studio to create the right sound and collaborates actively for the recordings, in the last album Mike has also composed all the synths and the piano.

12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.
Our equipment during the concerts is very simple, we do not like to use samples, clicks, triggers etc., our sound is very genuine. We use a Sonor drums, the guitar heads are ENGL and Blackstar, while the bass head is a Markbass. Then obviously some effect: ovedrive, delay etc.

13. What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?
Nothing in particular.

14. If you could custom build a band who would be the members?
If I could create a band I would like Dave Turncrantz (Russian Circles) on drums, Ludovic Van Alst (Peste Noire) on guitar and David Gold (Woods of Ypres - R.I.P. in 2011) behind the microphone. It would be very interesting.

15. Message to the fans? What is it?
Music is something very important in life, it must be listened carefully and you have to look beyond the notes ... Music is not a disposable product.
