BOUND BY YEARS SITS DOWN WITH THE TIMES

1.Introduce yourself and your band and tell us why we should listen to you.

My name is Dennis I play the drums for Bound By Years been with this band from the beginning and I have to say its been a fun ride so far. This band is a full meal for a hungry metal music lover. Every member of this band gives 100 percent and wholeheartedly believe that we can make some sort of a difference with our music.

2.What do you classify your sound as, Who do you tell people you sound like?

I would say metalcore. We sound like a lot of our idols because their music resonated so much within us. Bands like Wage War, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Metallica. Mudvayne, and Sevendust.

3.With digital music in today's world would you vote to keep or eliminate physical media?

I think physical media is important for the nostalgia factor. Like how an old cd has so many stories and memories.

4.What is the reason you decided to be a musician and has that reason paid off?

Ever since I was very young i was absolutely infatuated with drumming, tapping, and a lot of noise making. Then in middle school, a lot of nu metal was dropping and I was so mind blown and inspired that it paved the path to music for me. To this day music has always given back every ounce of love that I have put into it. From helping people in hard places to inspiring someone, to meeting amazing friends and songwriters. Very rewarding. I'm very lucky to have such a close relationship with music.

5.How do you feel about females in metal getting special attention? Do you feel it is fair?

Heavy metal to me is all about unity and I do feel like it's a must in order to have a balance to give the ying its yang. Maybe they do get a little more attention but let's be honest, they are much easier on the eyes and sound just as good if not better in some cases.

6.In the world climate with hatred being at an all-time high and metal being an “ angry” music ?

Do you think your music contributes to anger and hatred? Absolutely not, we write music from a place of emotion and strength with feelings we get from what's going on in our lives. We want our music to be a release to people who are harboring anger and hatred.

7.Are you opposed to religious beliefs or politics being used in music? I think that music is a form of expressing yourself and so it must be open to all ideas.

8.We have to dive into some pretty deep issues here do you think your music sends a message and if so what is it? The message is to be yourself, overcome things though impossible finding your inner strength, and inspire people to grow while growing yourself, and it about the unity of life.

9.The market has changed and many bands believe that record labels are a thing of the past, with many labels now charging bands to “sign” how do you think a band can make it in today's scene? I feel like the music speaks loud and from the heart, our energy and hungry professional attitudes have rocked so many venues and melted many faces. We are always thirsty and ready for what's next.

10.Why with the thousands of options including Netflix, sporting events everything on demand

Why do you think people should take the time to listen to what you have to say in your music? A lot of things you see or hear right now are flat and feel fake with a lot of bells and whistles. I feel Bound By Years has a genuine and unique sound that speaks to the reality and emotions of life from experience.

11.How do you feel about pay to play? Do you think it is fair for a band to have to pay money to play?

Most of the time the exposure is what you are paying for and that's hard to come by these days with so many bands out there. There have been some times when we felt like the money dealing for certain shows was a little off or just wrong but in this business, if you want respect you need to earn it, and that's exactly what we intend to continue to do.

12.It is fact that you are the talent and the entertainment explain what you think is the most important key to success? I think no one man runs a show there is always a crew of people working hard behind the scenes and they deserve as much credit as the artist or talent. Always keep a level of professionalism and a standard of quality. Never let ego make your decisions and remember to work hard and know your worth.

13.In country music and even in some cases rock music is written and performed by different people would your band perform a song written by someone else?

Yes, in fact, we have practiced and performed other artists' songs before, and I'm open to doing it again.

14.If you are pro-female in music are you pro using sex to sell your music?

It's a very competitive business and whatever your band can do to get your music or message out there is important. Who doesn't like a little sex with rock and roll?

15.What is your view on the lawsuits against people saying lewd or unprofessional things to women or men and how does that affect an art described as sex drugs and rock n roll?

It is kind of a shame that a lot of music news today is about what the artist said or did or what kind of trouble they are in, instead of the music or art that they create.

16. Ok let's lighten up a bit. What is your favorite band of all time and why?

Pantera will always hold that place in my heart. With the timing in my life that I first heard Pantera to the pure raw energy they had for music and life, I was instantly hooked. Pantera had a prolific effect on my life and I wouldn't change it for the world.

17.What would you be doing if you were not in a band?

Currently when the band is not on the road or recording or rehearsing I am a cook at a local bar and grill and would be neck-deep in a culinary career if I didn't have music.

18. Do you have a favorite sports team?

I'm a hockey fan and I do like the Colorado Avalanche but haven't got into sports in a couple of years

19.If you could get on stage with anyone dead or alive who would it be?

It would be an honor to shred a set with Trivium or even just share the stage with those guys someday.

20.This is your shot to let loose, Throw down your biggest complaint about the music biz. If I had a complaint about the music business it would be about all the songs that are on the radio that have been there for going on 25 years. Like make some room for some other musicians and allow the listener to hear what's really rocking in cars and bars and what's packing local venues.
