THE METAL TIMES : NEW ALBUM INTERVIEW / SELF IMPOSED EXILE

1.Thanks for taking the time to talk to The Metal Times! You have a new album out, Tell us about it!

Well we just released our Debut 6 song EP titled Mountainside in early July. Has a run time just shy of thirty minutes and has songs on topics from the ironic down side to immortality, dealing with depression and PTSD, spirit summoning and possession, to the out castingrevolt revolt of the Sumerian race against the Anunnaki masters.

2.Where was it recorded? Is all the material new?

It was recorded in a home studio by Nicholas Durdan who is a fellow musician for the band Witherer here in our town. The material itself sans most of the lyrics were written years ago and have only come to be recorded recently.

3.What is the biggest difference between your last release and the new one?

As this is our debut, I guess the fact that we now have music to share with the fellow metalheads out there!

4.Are you signed to a label? , If so which one and how did they help or support the process?

Currently we are not. We would like to eventually shop around for them. However, at this time; the labels we have talked to havent been interested as our music doesn't fit with what they want. So it is a Solo journey for now.

5.What has been going on with the band between albums? Did you tour?

Again it is a debut, and we would absolutely love to tour. The pandemic however has made sure we had to cancel our first two thirds of the year. That is part of the reason we decided to go with a pr company for the first time. Figured that we might as well make the best of the situation and try to get ourselves out there even though we cannot go out and play.

6.Do you have any new members?

The newest member is our vocalist Tristan Kostman who joined the band in early July of 2019.

7.Who produced the new album and how did they effect the album?

We didn't really have one so to speak. Everyone in the band is quite specific on how things should sound and while recording we were constantly giving feedback to the Durdan and he did everything we asked for. Of he had suggestions we took them into consideration and sometimes they were used. Mostly however we just did everything we could to make it sound like we know it should sound and how we are used to playing it live.

8.Some like to record naked or in the dark with candles , Did you have any strange studio practices?

No, we all just went in usually individually workgroups of 2-3 did what we needed to do and were able to get everything recorded and re-recorded in a couple of weeks total time actually in the studio. A lot of coffee, some smoke breaks but usually just straight down to work.

9.Of course tell us where to pick up your album and how to learn more about you.

Well you can find us on Spotify, iTunes, Google Music, IHeartRadio, Soundcloud, YouTube. Pretty much anywhere you can stream. Also you can find us on Facebook at facebook.com/815exile or reverbnation.com/selfimposedexile3

Also for any other news or to contact us our instagram is @surfacebarrier  and Twitter is @imposedself

10.What is your plans now that the new album is out?

We would love to be able to go out and play as many shows as possible but that isnt possible at the moment. So we are taking the time to build up a name through social media, interviews for zines, podcasts, and youtube videos. We are also working on recording some new material! Possibly a full length in the near future.
