BATTERY DRUMMER INTERVIEW : Justin Beamon / Chasing After Alice.

1.What is your name and what band do you play for?

1.What is your name and what band do you play for?

-My name is Justin Beamon and I play with Chasing After Alice.

2.Who made you want to play drums and why?
-When I was young I played on pots and pans to MTV back when they had music videos haha. I just liked the beat.

3.When did you get your first kit? Tell us about it…

-Well soon after I destroyed my parents pots and pans, my parents got me an electronic drum set. I destroyed that in about a month and then afterwards they got me my first real drum set, a cheap Rogers set.

4.Where your parents supportive of you and your loud / expensive new habit?

     - Somehow they were! They enjoyed listening to me play all the time. Neighbors weren’t too mad which was a blessing haha.

5.What drum performance on an album is perfection to you?

--I really love Matt Halpern's performance in the latest album from Periphery, Hail Stan.

6.Tell us about your current kit and set up in DETAIL.

     - My current setup is Tama Starclassic Maple shells in a deep purple/blue depending on the light except for the snare which is a Taye brand 14”. Cymbals from left to right:  Sabian XS20 14” Hihat, Sabian AAX X-Plosion Fast Crash 17”, Paiste Splash 8”, Sabian XS20 China 18”, Sabian X-Plosion Crash 18”, Wuhan China 18” Zildjian A Custom Ride 20”. It’s a mix of Pearl and Gibraltar hardware. For my bass drum I have a Duallist D3 Triple pedal.

7.If you could have a dream kit tell us about it in DETAIL

     - I don’t really have a dream kit but if I had to go next level it would have to be some variation of a Pearl Reference series with all AA Meinl Byzance Cymbals and an FP9 double pedal.

8.Name your top 5 drummers excluding Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy
-My top 5 are Jay Postones, Matt Halpern, Matt Garstka, Dennis Chambers, and Questlove.

9. Do you prefer Live or Studio?

     - I love the studio with how relaxed and chill it is, but I prefer the live shows. That energy and adrenaline you feel makes it the easy choice.

10.Do drummers really get all the chicks and if so how do we convince the guitarist?

-Typically the guitarists get a lot of the chicks but once they realize he can’t stay on beat they come running to the drummer hahaha.
