In Silent Agony
Scandalous
Album review by Allyson Kingsley music journalist with Metal Coffee/Metal Moose
In Silent Agony is a creative and unique metal project created by multi-instrumentalist and producer Brandon "Eski" Ortiz. It is a beautiful blend of black metal, dark industrial and goth. His music is described as follows: "In Silent Agony is the heavy metal soundtrack of Eski's mind." Let's take a journey through his recent release Scandalous.
The intro "Ex-Communicado" begins the album with tribal drumming in the background. Kind of a heartbeat of the monster. We are led into "Revenge", viscous and visceral, it is like a romp through a Gothic thrash metal horror flick. It burns with intensity and exigent fire. With savage instrumentation to horror inspired lyricism, In Silent Agony embraces all that is terrifying and sinister and reminds me a bit of early Cradle of Filth.
"Insubordination" is chaotic yet entirely beautiful with its demonic whispers that brings an image to mind of entering a forbidden place. You know you should not be there but the temptation of the Unknown overcomes.
"Possibilidoom" and "Scandalous" continue with decent repercussions and plays out like an incomprehensible nightmare stirring you in the night, perfect in its devilish haze. The lyrics read: "Anything you can do, I can do much worse. My reach is to the stars, I am the universe" I like to interpret that as you are your own god but that is a whole other controversial realm.
"Four and Twenty Hours" slithers it's way into you, both monstrous and menacing. Note well the serpentine patterns to the guitar riffs.
The remainder of the album continues to flow in the same manner and is certainly different from what we are used to hearing day after day.
