DIE EGO INTERVIEW

1.Thanks for taking the time to talk to The Grinder! You have a new album / EP out, Tell us about it!

Thanks for having us , we have our debut album “CULTO” coming out on the 12th of June and the first single “Anger is Yours” on the 5th of March. People can watch the song’s official video on our YouTube channel and stream it for free it in our Bandcamp , it will be also available on Spotify and all major streaming services very soon.

2.Where was it recorded? Is all the material new?

We recorded it last summer at Rogue Studios in London UK, album has 8 new original songs

3.What is the biggest difference between your last release and the new one?

This is going to be our first official release, in 2018 we put out a demo mainly to help us get gigs and give people a hint of what’s the band about but, that demo was never meant to come out, it happened that prompters were asking for music and that was the only material we had recored , surprisingly it had a good reception and helped us give the first steps to establish ourselves in the scene.

All songs that were part of that demo were re-arranged and re-recorded for the album, the difference is huge and we can’t wait for people to hear it.

4.Are you signed to a label? If so which one and how did they help or support the process?

We are not and it was our call, we received a couple of offers that after thinking it over and get proper advise we decided that it was not what we were looking for. I don’t want to get into many details but one of the labels ended up getting “offended” with us because we tried to re-negotiate an offer that was giving them the 80% of royalties and basically absolute control of the band. I guess that is the state of music these days and the kind of offers upcoming rock/heavy bands receive, we believe is better to release the album independently and see what lays ahead. We love our music and believe in what we do, not gonna give it away for nothing in return.

5.What has been going on with the band between albums and releases? Did you tour?

We literally did not stop playing live everywhere we could. The only break we had was while we were making the album because we decided to put all our energy and focus on it but we still managed to play “Camden Rocks festival” half way through the recording process.

We haven’t been part of a tour yet but we played as many cities as we could . Our first tour will be this March in the midlands along with Ygodeh and The Medea Project, here are the dates:

19- 03 - Nottingham, The old Salutation Inn

20- 03 - Birmingham, The Scruffy Murphy’s

22 -03 - Northampton, the king Billy Bar.

We are very excited about it and hopefully people will turn up to support all bands.

6.Do you have any new members?

No, this is the first official Die Ego line-up. We had some musicians coming and going in the early days but this is the line-up that consolidated the band’s sound and music direction

7.Who produced the new record and how did they effect it?

Record was produced by Alessio Garavello at his studio in Wembley Park - Rogue Studios. Alessio got so involved in the process that it felt like he was the 4th member of the band. Prior the recording he came to see us live and asked for a pre-production of all the material we were going to record. Alessio took time to understand our mind set and were we wanted to go with this album, paid attention to detail to every single note played and got the best of us in every take and i’m not just saying this, I mean it!  Studio hours can be exhausting, he knew how to drive the sessions and made us fell comfortable. We are happy and thankful he was part of it, extremely recommended.

8.Some like to record naked or in the dark with candles…. Did you have any strange studio practices?

Playing naked and surrounded with candles is appealing and exciting but when you are an unsigned band that pays for the studio hours there’s no time to waist haha.  As I mentioned earlier, before going to the studio we made a pre-production, demo all songs,  played tones of gigs and we were ready record the songs to our best . Having a clear idea of what we wanted musically allowed us to be more confident in the studio, don’t waist time and also gave room for creativity. Some things you might think sound good live, not necessarily translate the same way in the studio and after playing the songs live loads times we wanted to give them a fresh touch and make them sound new to us. Keeping an open mind was the key to make this happen. We would just get the to studio well rested, park our egos at the door and be ready to get our asses kicked by Alessio.

9.Of course tell us where to pick up your record and how to learn more about you.

Physical copies will be available on our Bigcartel, Bandcamp  and of curse in our shows. It will be also available to stream and buy from all major streaming services online like Spotify, Apple music, Amazon, Google play/ Youtube, etc.
