BEHIND THE HORROR SPEAK TO THE GRINDER

1.What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it?
We think some people are born with this natural "appetite" for horror and the macabre. They understand and experience the world under a different perspective because when they look straight where nobody has the guts to look they can see a hidden truth and even beauty behind every tragedy, every cloud has a silver lining and Behind The Horror lies the truth
What is your name and what do you do for the band?

Lucas Alves : Drummer, Manager, Song Writer, Producer , Composer .

Gabriel Alves : Guitar/Vocal, Social Media Manager, Video editing, Graphic Design, Audio Engineer, Producer, Song Writer

2.Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.
Behind The Horror is original from the depths of central Brazil in the city of Anápolis on state of Goiás near 100 miles from the capital of the country Brasília. The region is known by the strong farming business and with that, culturally, the biggest pole of the Brazilian country music called Sertanejo. With all of that you might think Metal never could happen there but against all odds the city has one of the oldest and strongest Metal scenes in the country. In the 80's bands like Prostibulus, Urban Cannibals, Light Years, Bullshit made history putting concerts on top of trucks and in public parks making possible for new bands bloom in the area. Behind The Horror made your part when started a festival called Anápolis Metal, getting all of this bands together raising the flag of Metal as a genuine cultural movement, they got government recognize the festival as a Official City Calendar Event, in its 7 Edition already was one of the biggest independent Metal fests in the country.
And now seeking a new chapter in his career Behind The Horror has moved to US and its based in Long Branch in the Jersey shore, close to a lot of places where lots of great bands has passed, and after a couple of shows the band has started to make some friends and connections the contribute with all the know how they have and make their new local scene one of the greatest in the world.

3.Who influences your sound that would surprise people?
As brothers we definitely share a lot of tastes and influences, but at the very beginning the first band who really brought us to the Rock world was Nirvana and Charlie Brown Jr., one of the biggest rock bands from Brazil. Although we definitely have very different and weird influences from each other, we've spent a lot of time listening to the classic Heavy Metal but we're very affectionated by early 70, bands such Yes, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Grateful Dead, Hendrix and others definitely contribute to the mix in our sound. The Blues also have a big importance in our guitars, Eric Clapton, Steve Ray Vaughan, BB King and many others have a big part in our music. And of course games , our minds are truly connected with games , specially World of warcraft .

4.Are you endorsed by musical companies , if so who , and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?

No , Tama, Mapex , Dw , Sabian , Meinl, Paiste, Pro Mark , Vic Firth, Evans , Remo
Schecter, Ibanez, Positive Grid(Bias Fx) Onel.
But I mean, who else got us a good deal to work with we're in.

5.When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?

The ultimate goal is to have a stadium audience singing our songs with us, and make a living from our musical career. Considering our current audience we can we are very far from our biggest goal, although we know it's not a race it's a marathon, and every day we've been clearing the path to get there.

6.In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band relevant over time?

We are in constant contact with our fans, and interacting as much as possible with everyone sharing ideas and getting advice. What we've been doing a lot is seek for knowledge, getting some courses attending webinars, to more than everything add value to our content to make a meaningful deliver to our audience.

7.We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off live?

It’s cool to listen at home, but it won’t bring people to a concert more than once I believe, unless their fans are obsessed with the artists personas. Every band has your own style to make your way to the top, if a band can get there with this kind of performance, good for them. We respect all the roads.

8.Tell us your “core” are you Metal , Rock , Punk , Pop etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?

Metal, Metal, Metal "we need metal in our lives just like an eagle needs to fly " Manowar.

9.This is a tough question but a very real reality, Is your band actually talented or just popular?

We dont believe in talent, everything we are comes from study and hard work, but popular is something we are definitely NOT… YET.
Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?
Fame is a tool , but I would not change the way we play or write or songs to achieve fame , cause that would just stop making sense , otherwise we would not be playing metal.Unless you are a professional musician that is up to play whatever it needs to make money . Nothing wrong with too . We would do it . But just as musicians. But not with our band, that, NEVER.

10.Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that people will remember?

We start our concert with intro, which is  a message from, Charlie Chaplin - Final Speech from The Great Dictator ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7GY1Xg6X20 ), everyone who listen to that part of the speech get inspired right way man, with back ground effects. That calls everyone attention at first , like it was a big band on stage about to start playing , then we start playing right after the Intro , we play 3 songs non stop , and people go crazy with it , every time they comment that is insane and they react very well about it. After the three songs we introduce ourselves and play 2 more nonstop with drum solos during the songs and people go crazy with it too every time they scream when the drummer solo comes out of nowhere and we make a grand finale improvising and shredding .

11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?

We got an EP with 4 tracks called "...And The Horror Begins"
And we just finished our upcoming album and now we're planning to release some singles before the full album launch for the next year.

12. If you have videos where can we see them?

https://www.youtube.com/BehindTheHorror

13.Everybody has Bandcamp , ReverbNation , Soundcloud , etc
Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?

The market changed over the years , every artist wants attention , and with so many vehicles of media out there , I believe that’s the way they share it for free, but it depends on your strategy, you need to build a relationship with your audience, they need to be seen  as more than just fans or clients so sure they can listen to your music for free but this has to be  only the beginning of a great journey you'll have together.

14.Best moment of your career so far?

Our first USA tour , I don’t know if we can call it a tour , but it was the first time that we had an agenda for shows, in two months we played 4 concerts , which was our first experience with the USA metal scene , making contacts meeting nice people and making fans . best time so far!!!

15.Your message to the fans?

We are here to play metal and share our view of the world with you, make you bang your heads wherever we go and get that chill in your skin every time you listen to our songs.
Stay true, keep Metal!!!

Bonus Question who do you bring back

Dime , Cliff , Dio , Lemmy , Randy
Wow, not fair man , i don’t know , randy maybe to have to help ozzy maybe come back to road a make his final tour hehehe. Or Dio to come back and scare people after during the hologram tour hahah “ I am back “
