DAYS TO COME ANSWER THE NEWEST 2019 GRINDER INTERVIEW

Q: 1. What is the name of your band and how did you come up with it?

What is your name and what do you do for the band?

A: Justin - I thought of the name Days To Come one day while I was at my day job. I was frustrated because we had all of the pieces to form a band except for a drummer and it is always so difficult finding a drummer! I knew that we would eventually find one and everything would work out in the future, but that moment of frustration gave birth to the name. My name is Justin Goodson and I’m the vocalist and rhythm guitarist.

Q: 2. Tell us where you are based and describe the scene. How do you think where you are located influences your sound.

A: Justin - The band is based out of Albany, Georgia and our local music scene seems dominated by country and rap. There are great rock/metal bands, but we're definitely in the minority.

I grew up in a military household and had the opportunity to move and experience a lot of cultures as a kid and teenager. I’m sure these experiences helped shape and influence my songwriting.

Q: 3. Who influences your sound that would surprise people?

A: Brandon - Devin Townsend and Plini.

Q: 4. Are you endorsed by musical companies, if so who, and if not who would you like to be endorsed by?

A: Justin - I’m endorsed by Curt Mangan Strings, Spectraflex Cables, InTune Guitar Picks, and Dirtbag Clothing. All of these companies put their artists first and make quality products. I’m very happy to work with each of them. In the future, I would love to work with PRS, Mesa Boogie, and Shure.

Q: 5. When you started what was your ultimate goal? And how close to the goal are you now?

A: Justin - Originally, my goal was just to be able to play music. I love the release writing provides and the energy of playing a show. After being in a band for almost five years, the ultimate goal hasn’t changed - I just have a lot of other goals now too!

With the band, I would like Days To Come to make a positive impact on the world. I want our music to positively change someone’s life. Music is powerful and I believe we can do it.

Q: 6. In today's digital environment it takes creative strategy to keep things moving. What creative ideas do you have to keep your band relevant over time?

A: Justin - We started utilizing giveaways late last year and we really saw growth - both in our current audience as well as gaining new people. Bridging our brand with something familiar (Taco Bell for example) really help get us in front of more people. We’ll definitely continue to do giveaways with different prizes to see what our audience associates with the most.

Q: 7. We've all seen a terrible live band that is awesome on CD. Is that cool with you or do you lose respect for bands that cannot pull it off live?

A: Jalen - I feel that if you rely too heavily on effects and artificial sounds then you lose a lot of the integrity of being a musician and it can unintentionally become an excuse to not give your all every time.

Q: 8. Tell us your “core” are you Metal, Rock, Punk, Pop, etc because people just have to categorize these days you know?

A: Brandon - We're continually developing and working towards what "Days To Come" sounds like, but I want to be able to say that we have pop styled, catchy vocal melodies layered with intricate music supporting it. Basically pop-prog.

Q: 9. This is a tough question but a very real reality. Is your band actually talented or just popular?

Many bands make it with a cliche or publicity stunts etc. Would you accept fame even if it was just because of being the “ in” thing or is it actually important to you that you gain favor with talent?

A: Jalen - I believe we’re talented. I feel that earning fans and their respect last much longer than being "in" for 3 months or so then fading into obscurity.

Q: 10. Tell us what to expect from you live. Nothing is more boring than watching bands stare at the floor and bob their heads to music nobody but the band knows. What can your band offer in a live setting that people will remember?

A: Jalen - We always want the audience to know that THEY are the reason we are here. We always strive to be engaging and fun to watch on stage. We think of what we would want to see on stage and apply that to our shows.

Q: 11. What releases have you put out , When will we see something new?

A: Brandon - We released our first EP, Subsist | The Art Of Survival, in 2016 and we’re releasing our next single (Siren) this January (2019).

Q: 12. If you have videos where can we see them?

A: Jalen - Our website and on social media - Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter. We have the same user name on all of the social sites. Just search @daystocomemusic and you’ll find us.

Q: 13. Everybody has Bandcamp, ReverbNation, Soundcloud, etc.

Why do you think this is so important? Doesn't it seem like everyone is giving everything out for free?

A: Justin - Finding “your” audience can be difficult. All of those sites are tools that can help artists get their music in front of people. We live in such a wonderful time where independent artists are in control of their career and, with a little bit of work, can find their audience and develop a fan base without a major label.

Indie artists often give their music away for free because that’s what it takes to get someone to listen to it. The consumer has so many entertainment options. The chances of them buying a song they’ve never heard from a band they don’t know is slim.

Q: 14. Best moment of your career so far?

A: Brandon - The best moment to me would be when I decided to fully commitment to music. Nothing has made me more joyous and complete than coming up with a beautiful melody on guitar or singing a sassy note - and to be able to say "this is what I'm going to for my life" fufills me to no end.

Q: 15. Your message to the fans?

A: Justin - We absolutely love you guys. We appreciate your continued support and we can’t wait to GIVE you new music.

Bonus Question who do you bring back -

Dime, Cliff, Dio, Lemmy, Randy?

A: Jalen - Layne Staley.
