The Colour You INTERVIEW

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was formed in 2016 by guitarist Bemo Barnett (ex-Cane Hill). Bemo knew Robbie (ex-Favorite Weapon) from growing up in the local scene and also touring together so he was one of the first people asked to join. Julian was connected through a mutual friend in Los Angeles and was sent a few demos and fell in love with the project; he hopped on a plane to Louisiana a week later and we’ve been grinding since.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band name actually came from a lyric we had in an old song of ours. The style was a bit different then, and as the songs we started writing past that point we’re changing we felt it was time to maybe replace the name as well; that lyric just kind of popped out at us and we thought it would be cool as a name.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are

there any local bands you could recommend?

Baton Rouge, LA. The scene here has had its ups and downs but is seeming like it’s starting to thrive a bit. There are plenty of great locals ranging from many different genres that are scattered around the area but some that stick out to us are Traded Moments, Crypt, Daemon Grimm, Ventruss, In Reverie, and Event Horizon.

4. How would you describe your style?

A rock band with a dash of pop influence.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your

works?

Set Me Free is the only track we have released so far. We felt that song, in particular, was pretty well rounded to showcase the band. There are some heavy parts, some poppy parts, and it’s topped off with a big rock chorus. With us knowing our record, it allows us to also control the pace of how we’re presented to the public. At this point, we could release a “heavier” track or a “poppier” track and it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch because Set Me Free sets you up for what to expect.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Always! We’re cranking out new ideas every day and setting them off to the side until it’s time to really dive in and complete them. Our back catalog of demos is thick.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’ve been throwing some local shows in here and there without overplaying our market, but still maintaining a presence. We have a few things regarding touring planned for the fall but you have to wait for that one.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Just keep pushing forward and releasing content. We all have personal goals we’d like to achieve with this project and we’re ready to see how far we can take it.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Everything you need to know is on our website. (www.thecolouryou.com)

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Enjoy it for what it is and don’t be afraid of something new.
