Interview // antisoph

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Antisoph is a trio coming from Schleswig-Holstein/germany. Founded in 2014 under the name „ORB“ by Jan M. Plewka (guitar/vocals) and Christopher Duis (drums). In 2015 we recorded our debut „craft“ and in 2016 Wolfram Eggebrecht (bass) joined the band. The members coming from Bands like Vitamin-X, Nucular, Leoniden and Kerbenok. Since 2016 the band worked on their upcoming self-titled album „Antisoph“ (may 18th 2018), which was recorded in June 2017 by Oliver Carell (Blastbeat Productions/Kiel).

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

It`s about bringing together contradictions. A philosopher is largely associated with a wisdom seeking individual dealing with the questions of life, perception and cause and effekt. The word has a deeply positive attitude and stands for social and intelectual awareness. We had something in mind like an antagonist of that. Someone taking all it`s effort in egoism and ignorance. We also found this concept in our music. The rythmic and tonal components are quite entangling and stand in harsh contrast to the transparent and clear voice of Jan. Anyway... the antisoph or antisopher is a widespread human type nowadays. Most people are antisophers the most of the time. Word.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there?

Are there any local bands you could recommend? We are all coming from different musical directions. Jan came from Emo/Screamo/Progressive based bands, Wolfram from Hardcore/PowerViolence/Punk section and me (Christopher) coming from Metal/Black Metal. Though we listen to all kinds of music, especially Jazz/NeoSoul and progressive Stuff. The music scene is quite divers. Somehow germans are no real „concert-goer`s“. Often there are just a few people around... Nevertheless there is an existing network of bands and clubs, not comparable to Hamburg. Hamburg, ofcourse, has a great scene and lot`s of clubs. Concerning local bands, we`d recommend VNREST and Camel Driver from Kiel.

4. How would you describe your style?

Maybe „tricky-bashbronz“ , „terror and cream“ or twisted „desert-mole-rat-metal“... . Mainly pretty exhausting.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we released our debut album „craft“ and our second recording „Antisoph“. The music covers various metal styles with a certain progressive twist.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We started to work on new material... This time it looks like an ep and a split with the other band of Jan, called VNREST.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We just had two gigs in the past, but we are looking forward to do some weekenders within germany. And maybe a tour next year.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

 Keep on making interesting music.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

https://antisoph.bandcamp.com/ https://geisterasche.de/antisoph-antisoph/ or stream us at Spotify, Deezer or Tidal

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time? A thunderstorm of burning nail-spiked strawberrys.
