Firesphere Interview

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Firesphere started with me and my wife. My wife is a composer for TV and films. She’s also a singer/songwriter. I’m a singer/songwriter and a traditional metal head. So, we decided to combine our pretty varied musical styles and try and write music that was different and new. Well, as new as you can get in a field where everything has been done at some point. We began writing material for our debut CD and, because of how the songs were coming out thought, ya know, let’s do something more, something bigger with this. We came up with the concept of a group of dark characters each with their own personal backstory and name. Also, each character is an immortal having become that way explained in their particular backstory. The two main characters, Priest and Rosemary Butterfly, found the members of Firesphere during their travels around the world while recruiting for the Order of the Cross and Dragon, a sanctuary for others like themselves. At the end of the day, theirs is a dark love story between the two main characters/vocalists who’s love for each other is the only thing, that small light, keeping their hearts from being totally black. When one listens to the songs they’ll sense that thread of the story in the music. 

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name came to my wife first. There was an immediate like for the name and it seemed to fit what we were going for. It’s a big name, one word and easy to remember. I don’t think we even thought of any other names actually. 

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend? 

We are mostly based in Orlando, Florida. I would say we have a pretty healthy music scene but, it seems like it’s saturated with death metal, Viking metal, screamo and the likes. Nothing wrong with that but, it makes it a bit difficult to set up shows when we sound so different. Some local bands I’d recommend are Broken Silence, ROXX, Jupiter Groove, Armor of God, PLATE, eFen and YYNOT. 

4. How would you describe your style?

That’s very difficult. We combine industrial rock/metal with techno and big cinematic soundtrack. I guess I could say, if you like bands like Ghost, Kamelot or Queensryche, you’d probably like us but, we don’t sound exactly like those bands. In reviews we’ve had of our music they always mention that is difficult to categorize us.   

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works? 

We’ve released our debut CD Requiem. You can expect good solid songs, melody, crunchy industrial guitar, big orchestra and good vocals that is enjoyable. 

6. Do you have any new music in the works? 

Lots. We’ve written a slew of songs for our follow up CD. This one will have a bit heavier sound than the debut. 

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out? 

We try to play as much as possible but, because of the big show we put on, it’s hard finding venues that can accommodate us. We have management and booking behind us so, that helps a lot. We’re in the process of planning a local tour. 

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band? 

Well, put out new product and keep playing as much as we can. That’s the priority right now but, touring is high on the list for sure.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
