Tracks: Modern Testament/Insomniac
Dying Oath, a modern metalcore outfit based out of Rural Retreat, Virginia. Comprised of members Josh (lead), Ryan (guitar), Jacob (drums), Jeb (clean vocals), and Mindy (dirty vocals), this group has been at it for a few years beginning in 2018.
The first track I had the pleasure of reviewing (and first review ever) was their single Insomniac. Immediately out of the gate, they grab your attention with an incredible instrumental intro, followed closely by powerful vocals coming from Mindy. Right from the start you get flashbacks of early 2000's metalcore blended with the more modern style we hear today. Having 2 different vocalists each doing their own different style really resonates with me and both vocalist execute them perfectly, with excellent execution and timing. Progressions in this track reminded me a lot of what we hear in "War Eternal" by Arch Enemy, but with added clean vocals and I love it.
The second track reviewed from Dying Oath is "Modern Testament", which is my favorite of the two. The clean vocals really standout moreso in this track than in "insomniac", so if you're a fan of cleans this is the track you definitely want to check out. The blending of both vocal styles at key moments in this track really helps it stand out, with excellent execution from the guitars and drums. Midway through you get a really well put together and solid guitar melody which resonates back into the chorus.
