Legion of Wolves interview

Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band started in 2009 with just 2 members, Cory Annatar (guitar) and myself, Jason (drums). We had played together in Abaddon Incarnate previous to this. Arek joined in 2010 on second guitar and Chris came in soon after on vocals! I recruited John McGhee on bass and backing vocals and that completed the lineup! In recent years we have struggled with finding a permanent bassist so Cory has taken over bass playing for live situations!

What’s the origin of the band’s name?

This is mostly down to Cory's interest in history and philosophy! I can't remember exactly but Greek /Roman legions would wear wolf heads and skins into battle and so the band name is a reference to these times from the view point of war, conflict and victory!

Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in the Kildare/Dublin area in Ireland. The scene here is quite strong although like anywhere else, with so many styles nowadays can be a little divided! It was always going to happen, when a genre of music becomes so developed its gonna change for good or bad. Thankfully true metal fans tend to be genuine and individualistic so stay loyal to the styles and sub genres that originally drew them towards metal music! Local bands I would recommend would be Zealot Cult, Primordial, Warpath, Skewered! Dead Label are doing very well for themselves also!

How would you describe your style?

Our style has been described as being old school death metal with a modern touch! I think this is fair to say!

What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have 2 demo releases and a full length album. You can expect genuine, heart felt death metal! Intense and weighty! We give everything to writing and performing our songs, no half measures!

Do you have any new music in the works?

We recently released our album, Bringers of the Dark Sleep so new material is only now becoming something we're thinking about again! Both Cory and Arek have begun writing and the material is very promising. It's exciting!

How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have 3 local/Irish shows coming up in next few months in County Limerick and Dublin City. One in support of our old band mates in Abaddon Incarnate, one at the festival Siege of Limerick and one is our own show! We will also look at doing a tour in Europe early next year!

What plans do you have for the future as a band?

To just continue creating and playing the music we love! To develop as musicians and as a band while still keeping the vital elements of the band's music apparent. Europe recognition would be a goal also!

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can hear our music on CD, Spotify, I tunes and such. You can buy our merchandise from the band through Big Cartel for which you will find a link on our Facebook page! Also you can buy from our record label Metal Scrap records!

What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The drums......only..... Haha..... Joking! I guess I want people to remember that the music is well written and well performed with vigor and passion! Powerful and honest! Nobody can deny the power of true death metal, it is what it is! Take it or leave it!
