EXTINGUISH THE SUN INTERVIEW

1. Please tell us about the about the band and its members.

We are an Alternative Metal band, based out of the Midwestern town of Dixon IL, in the vein of Mastodon, Clutch, COC and a bit of Every Time I Die.  Our members are Jeremy Miller (vocals), Jeremy Toms (guitar), Daniel Edmunds (bass, backing vocals), Michael Morley (drums) and Nick Grobe (guitar). We formed in the fall of 2015.  We started writing immediately and went on to record from there, first releasing 2 songs as a demo and then a 9 track album.

2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?

The way we write is definitely a group effort. It usually starts with  nugget of an idea that someone comes into the jam room with, but then everyone piles on and it goes from there.  Its rare that the song doesnt evolve quite a bit from where it started.

3. Where is the band based out of ? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?

We all live in or around the Dixon IL area. We all have jobs and most of us have families - so this spot is where we will stay im sure.  We are within 2 hrs of a bunch of great music scenes, so it really works fine for us.

4. What is your genre?

What bands do you use to explain  to people what you sound like?
We tend to claim the “Alternative Metal” genre, although everyone always has different ideas about what this and that sounds like.  As far as bands we sound like.. Newer Mastodon, the groove of Clutch or COC and the straight ahead “rock-ness” of Every Time I Die.

 5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?

Absolutely! We our debut release “Antihero” is available currently for pay what you want at extinguishthesun.bandcamp.com.  We also have Tshirts and Koozies available there as well.

6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?

No studio time lined up yet, but we are pretty deep into writing songs for an EP that we want to release soon(ish)

7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?

No tours.  With our lives outside of the band its difficult, but we try and take fewer but smarter / bigger shows.  We would certainly love to do some shorter run things, but it would have to be a good situation that really made sense forus.

8. What is your favorite band?

Who are the bands who influenced you?
Well, my (Nick) current favorite band is probably Mastodon, but growing up I was a huge Maiden fan.  Both myself and Jeremy (Toms) come from similar backgrounds there, listening to a bunch of guitar driven stuff.  But as a band, we have a ton of different influences. Dan and Mike both listen to a lot of Punk, Pop Punk and Hardcore stuff, Miller listens to pretty much all of it, from older country stuff to Pantera, Clutch, Ghost etc..

9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?

The website is www.extinguishthesun.com - No age verification required.

10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?

I think overall we want people to get a good sense of energy from it - and for it to be catchy - its heavy but we still want to have hooks and things that will move people.

11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about , what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member ?

Hmmm.. not sure about this one.

12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.

Mike plays a 3 piece (Yes..) DW kit.  For amps, Jer has a Bugera head (cant remember the model right now) and I have a Peavey 6505 head.  Ibanez, Hamer and Hard Luck Kings guitars.  Dan is also a gear nerd and has quite a bit of stuff, but right now is playing an Orange “Terror” bass head.  Laney, Ampeg and Mesa cabs throughout the band..

13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?

Haha, i dont know if we really have “guilty” pleasures - nothing we are ashamed of anyway.  Like I said in our influences, we all listen to a ton of stuff anyway, alot more than just metal - I dont think we are ashamed of any of it.  It all somehow translates into the stuff we do i think.

14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?

Boy, not sure about this one.  We’d probably all say something different - In light of recent events though, Id just take Dime and Vinnie back and leave it at that.

15.Message to the fans? What is it?

Our record Antihero is available for FREE right now at extinguishthesun.bandcamp.com - Go download it!  We also have several videos on youtube.  If you dig what you hear, drop us a line - We really enjoy writing and getting to play out, and hearing from you. Thanks in advance!
