DEVIL THEORY METAL COFFEE PR INTERVIEW

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band formed in January of 2016 and features former and current members of Zerotheist, Avis Praeda, & The Glasgow Smile: Chris Stokes (ex-Zerotheist) on vocals, Patrick Swinney (ex-Avis Praeda) on guitar, Emery Dee on drums, & Mister Meffert (Glasgow Smile) on bass. We spent the majority of the year writing and doing pre-production for our debut. We ended up parting ways with our original bassist in April of 2017 and spent some time auditioning new bassists as well as dealing with some major life events that popped up. Once we got the line-up squared away again around September of 2017, we spent more time working on the record and getting everyone rehearsed on all the songs and here we are!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The definition of the name is as follows: "a theory of history: political and social crises arise from the deliberate actions of evil or misguided leaders rather than as a natural result of conditions."

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Devil Theory is currently based out of Oklahoma City. Admittedly, we've been a little disconnected from the scene to some degree while we've been holed up working on our own stuff, but it seems to be in somewhat of a rebuilding phase. There are always a handful of really great bands at any given time though. Our very own Mister Meffert's The Glasgow Smile being one. Our good friends in Malicyde, Dischordia, & Carcinogen Daily (Tulsa) just to name a few as well.

4. How would you describe your style?
Simply put, we describe ourselves as doom metal, but we have several elements of traditional heavy metal, stoner metal, progressive rock, black metal, post-metal, etc. We're influenced by many things old and new and I think it shows in our music.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We've just released our debut EP "Descension". I think there's a little something in there for everyone to enjoy. Heavy riffs, catchy licks, killer instrumentation, vocals that cover a range of styles. It's a cool mix of a lot of different things.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We're always writing new stuff so everything is new pretty much at this point!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We plan on hitting the road and playing various dates throughout the summer and through the rest of this year in support of our debut record.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We hope to continue playing shows and touring for a while and then get back into the studio to record our sophomore effort and get back on the road backing that release.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Devil Theory can be found on all the major online retailers and streaming services, as well as YouTube, ReverbNation, etc.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Just keep supporting underground bands. We're all thankful for any and all help we get and we love what we do.

-Chris Stokes
