BLACK LIGHT INTERVEW

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Well, our projet started in 2012 by Nicholas (guitar) and Mattia (drums)
they are brothers. We went through many musical styles before finding
our own, starting from grunge, which then evolved into Hardrock. We
started playing metal with thrash stuff, and finally turned to metalcore
in 2015. Our path took many different streets that we just followed the
way we felt them. The line-up changed a lot during this path, now the
only remaining members of the first album are the brothers, then Lou
Oddon came on vocals, and Matteo Perini on bass.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We wanted a name which represented what we are and how we feel when we
make music. The “Black” represent the way metal music is the perfect
base to unleash strong emotions, we throw all our darkness out of
ourselves with it. It’s not like we are “darker” than anybody else, just
the daily spleen and pain life can gives you should not turn against
you, or destroy you. We just wanted to create something we could be
proud of with it. The “Light” has been chosen because it’s what gives
clarity to our path, you know, what we feel after have accomplished an
important step of it. Our light is our hope, our ambition.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like
there? Are
there any local bands you could recommend?

Our band was founded and started it gigs in Italy, but the music scene
was, and is still kinda poor there like: everything goes around cover
bands and newborn music is somewhat suffocated by all this, especially
if you play Metal. That’s also one of the reasons why we moved to
Latvia, besides our chance to work with Sliptrick Records. Rock/Metal
scene is quite bigger here, and there’s plenty of local bands which play
original music. A Latvian band we would recommend is definitely Flying
Bra: their style is settled between alternative and Hardrock, those guys
have a great talent, and are awesome live!

4. How would you describe your style?

Our musical style is mostly Metalcore. We moved to it because it’s a
perfect mix between heaviness and melody. You can put any feeling into
it, from the sweetest to the darkest ones , so we could say it’s kind of
a “Black Light” musical style! Also, the way instruments get
synchronised together is stunning. Every second of the breakdowns, very
popular in this style of music, hits you and makes you feel something
like one pure shot. Besides that, Metalcore is also one of the newest
form of metal, with many hardcore punk, but also catchy pop-rock melodic
elements that can be found in it. That gives to this musical style a lot
of versatility.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your
works?

We released our first album, Storms and Shades in June 2016. In this
album various styles can be found like Alternative Metal, Grunge, and
Thrash Metal. The album’s main core is still Metalcore. What you could
expect from our upcoming EP, Set Yourself Ablaze, is a more settled and
defined album, in which we focused on our main-core style. it’s also
deeper and heavier compared the previous album. You can have a preview
of it with our debut single, which name is Map Of Truth and is already
available on most of the digital platforms.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are working on new stuff as well. it will be a surprise, cuz it’s
gonna sound even different from the EP. Metalcore is a musical genre
that’s keep evolving, and as a young band, we have the will to evolve
and experience new ways our music can take.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are planning a tour to promote our new EP, we’re looking for dates in
as many countries as we have the possibility to play at, this around all
Europe.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our plans consist in make our music evolve with more and more innovative
elements in it, to be able to produce and record our music by ourselves,
and to be able to manage the business band part (yes there’s this too)
independently from any external entity. Then we could use that for, for
example, produce other bands as well. We’re keep working work on all of
this stuff, with the Sliptrick Records guys helping us to keep focusing
on that way

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our new single “Map Of Truth” for purchase on iTunes. You
can also stream it on Spotify. These are the links!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your
music for the first time?

We guess every member could answer you a complete different thing about
it! But you know, when it’s on our music we like people to find the
parts they like the most by themselves. We only expect as much feedbacks
as they can give us! We’re a starting band, so the audience’s perception
is very precious and useful to us. It allows us to grow.
