Titan: The band was founded by thy majesty, the Hammer King, in 1978 and went directly into hiatus until the timing was right. And the timing was right in 2015 when we came together to record the first album. We have Dolph Aidan Macallan from Scotland on the drums, from out of nowhere it is K.K. Basement on the bass guitar and we have the pleasure to have the most timeless lead guitarist in this and all possible other worlds, all the way from Kleveland, Norway, Mr. Gino Wilde and my name is Titan Fox V, I'm the vocalist and the other lead guitarist.
2. Who does the majority of the writing? Is it a group thing or does someone handle the writing duties?
Titan: As always, all music and lyrics were given by the Hammer King and we do our very best to fulfill the honour of recording and playing the songs that the King giveth us.
3. Where is the band based out of? Where did you want to the band to end up? What was the dream city to have as your home base once you got out of your scene?
Titan: Officially and originally, the band is based in the Kingdom of Saint-Tropez. Our rehearsal room is directly located in the golden palace, Castle Rockfort, but for practical reasons we also have a huge rehearsal space in the south-west of Germany.
Where do we want the band to end up? The world is not enough! Frankly and honestly, we want the band to be as big as possible. We want to play as many shows as possible and we want the shows to be as big as possible. It can't ever be too many fans, never too many shows. We want the band to end up at the top – and once at the top, we do not want it to end!
The dream city? We claim to come from the Kingdom of Saint-Tropez, there is no other dream city! Fuck L.A., this is the best place of all!
4. What is your genre? What bands do you use to explain to people what you sound like?
Titan: When listening very closely, you'll find out that we sound most like Hammer King. Honestly, we are far too deeply rooted in our own music, there is no influence anymore. We call it Royal Metal, we sing the kingly tunes. I have never liked the expression "Power Metal" or "Melodic Metal", it's Heavy Metal, anything else is rubbish.
5. Can we buy anything from you Cd's shirts etc and where can we buy them?
Titan: You can anything and everything from us. We have the first album "Kingdom Of The Hammer King" as CD, as black and red vinyl and we have the second album "King Is Rising" as CD, as black and green vinyl actually. You get T-shirt for all the albums and we have stickers and patches. Everything is available on our official website www.hammer-king.com. Of course you always get everything at our shows and we sign everything for you. We also sign your girlfriend's tits if you want to and if she wants to – and if we want to. And we want to.
By the way, as you are named Metal Coffee – we will have our own coffee soon, Hammer King's Kingly Brew. We are heavy coffee drinkers!
6. Do you have studio time lined up anything new coming soon?
Titan: Musicians usually say that playing live is everything and being in the studio is just hard work. We are privileged to record with Charles Greywolf, so studio time is also an amazing pleasure.
We have just left the studio in April, after that the usual hassle of mixing was done. Then the mastering, which by the way was handled by Tony Lindgren at Jens Bogren's Fascination Street Studios. It really gave the album a wonderful organic and authentic sound. So, we just left the studio, the new album "Poseidon Will Carry Us Home" is set to be released in October, we might not be back in the studio before 1,5 or 2 years from now.
Hopefully we will play a shitload of shows, we have just signed with Shock City Productions from Scotland. So far they have provided us shows with Demon and The Three Tremors, we have played festival shows and also club shows. They should keep us busy!
7. Have you ever been on tour? If so where and with who?
Titan: Back in the day, when I sang for Ross The Boss, we did quite some touring. With Hammer King we have always focused on playing great shows, festivals and club shows. So we will be playing with Demon and the Three Tremors, so there is touring coming up. We always have around ten shows booked in advance. You can never play enough!
8. What is your favorite band? Who are the bands who influenced you?
Titan: With all due respect, we are influenced by the history of Heavy Metal and if all goes according to the kingly plan, we will influence the history of Heavy Metal ourselves – going full circle.
9. Do you have a website? And do I have to verify that I am 18 to enter it?
Titan: Hahahaha! Good one! On www.hammer-king.com you do not have to very that you're over 18 even though the King has the biggest Hammer – but you don't have to verify on youporn.com either :)
10. What about your music do you want people to remember? What is the quality you want to hit people when they hit play?
Titan: Right from the beginning, when the spokesman of the King, the Chancellor Of Glory, approached us to be the musicians in the King's band, we knew that the King's music would of course all be about the King. On the other hand, it has always been written to be played on stage. We are not writing concept albums that you have to play 25 times to get into it. We have always written songs that you can sing along the first moment you ever hear them because we live on stage, we need to be able to get the audiences' attention right away – and I know we do. Our songs are so damn catchy, you almost start hating them for it!
So the quality of our music when you hit play is that you will hit play again and again after that!
11. Name a person who is integral to your band that nobody knows about, what person drives your band like they are part of the band? Who is the extra member?
Titan: There is no other member other than the Hammer King himself. We are very grateful to many outside people, Charles Greywolf, Enrico Lecese from our label is such a friendly and honest man, we blessed to be with him, Carsten of Shock City Productions, Jochen Mayer. The list goes on and on. Lest we forget our road crew, especially the Dr.!
12. Tell nerds like me tell us about your live rig and equipment.
Titan: Hahahaha! You must understand that I am the anti-nerd! I do not care about equipment at all. I have not changed my guitar sound in 20 years – I guess only Chris Holmes, the former lead guitar player of W.A.S.P., he hasn't changed his sound since 1984! He must be the only person in the scene who has an older guitar set up than I do.
I do play a Marshall JCM 900, I don't like the 800 series. But I only use the power amp of it, my pre amp is a very old digi-tech multi effect board of which I only use a single custom sound in three volume configurations. If there's one thing I learned from Ross The Boss: You don't need effects and different sounds – it all comes from your fingers.
Of course I am dead proud of my Gibson Flying V in worn cherry red – I would kill for that guitar.
13.What is your musical guilty pleasure that you are ashamed of?
Titan: There is nothing to be ashamed of. I mean, the most expensive concert I ever attended was Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys – but that's nothing to be ashamed of. I see it that way: If you live your Heavy Metal, it can never hurt to listen to a broad variety of music. It can only make your Metal richer.
14.If you could custom build a band who would be the members?
Titan: I would be part of that band, otherwise it wouldn't be fun :) Well, Hammer King is the perfect band, but just for the fun of it: Brian May on guitar, Geddy Lee on bass and keyboards and Nigel Glockler from Saxon on the drums. He's really one of my favourite drummers!
I would definitely jump from vocals to rhythm guitar if you could give me Freddie Mercury back.
15.Message to the fans? What is it?
Titan: You are the greatest looking fans in the world, especially if you are the ladies. And if you are not, feel free to bring the ladies to the shows.
Seriously, thanks a lot to the hammerous fans out there! You have done great so far, we live on you! The Hammer King appreciates you very much, He will spare your lives!
God bless the King, may the King bless you!
